It's been 14 years since Roky Erickson last released an album of new material. His album with Okkervil River backing him (and Okkervil frontman Will Sheff producing), True Love Cast Out All Evil,came out last month, and the Erickson/Okkervil team made its debut at SXSW earlier, but each show still sort of feels like a comeback show. Erickson's show last night in L.A.,was also special because it was the kick-off date for their very short, three-city tour (they're playing San Fransisco tomorrow night, New York on May 25).Locals Leslie and the Badgers opened the show, and according to photographer Andrew Youssef, fans chanted "Roky! Roky!" before Erickson and Okkervil came out. Okkervil River made an excellent backing band for Erickson, with each half looking to the other for clues and transitions. The encore? "You're Gonna Miss Me," naturally.
