New Atmosphere – “Sunshine”

"Sunshine" findsMinneapolis rap duo Atmosphere (MC Slug + DJ Ant) on a "Summertime" kick. (Yup, the Fresh Prince homage 'n' flow is pretty obvious before Slug name drops and echoes him near song's end.) The "simple" song opens with a hangover and a bike ride, then spins through a good-vibes laundry list (BBQ's, butterflies, bumpin' birds, bikes ... and some things that don't start with "b") alongside a Snoop Dogg pitch
squiggle and a piano twinkle that had us reminiscing over Common's "Retrospect For Life" minus the abortion theme. Nope nothing sad here! Truth is the Atmosphere might be a bit too sunny: Dudes, while we dig the posicore, not every woman "looks better in a sundress" (same goes for the male equivalent, whatever that is). We do understand, though ... as Will Smith dropped it way back in 1991, "It's like the summer's a natural aphrodisiac." Too true.

Atmosphere - "Sunshine" (MP3)

The track's the lead to Sad Clown Bad Summer 9, a stop-gap for Atmosphere's sixth full-length When Life Gives You Lemons.... According to the band, you have until early next year for the biggie, so might as well make some lemonade and sip on this.
