Reader Melody Lau sends in this clip of Merrill Garbus doing her thing over eight minutes on a new song during a sold-out performance at the Ukraine Center for last week's POP Montreal festival. Here, specifically, her thing is thattUnE-yArDs hybrid of loop/patch vocal crochet, ukulele scraping, with a healthy dollop of brass + bass, except the bass sounds more riff-like, as if "Powa"'s half-time funk took an attitude adjustment from the raunchy swing of Janes's "Coming Down The Mountain," or something. From there it swells into something large and cacophonous, thanks to those twin saxes and slate of background singers. Cue it up:

In addition to Garbus doing this new cut, POP Montreal 2011 is showing us how well Arcade Fire's Win Butler can actually play basketball (pretty well!) in photo and video.
