I have to agree with Nathan more than I wish. I love Matt & Kim. This album shows growth in lots of ways, including some of Matt’s synth parts. What’s lost is so much of their incredible spontaneity and infectiousness. The fun will come through in the live versions, but this was far too produced for what they do best. People may not be aware that “Daylight” actually went gold based on TV exposure and their wonderful live shows. I’m not sure this album has anything that strong. I’m hoping I’m wrong but I root really hard for these two!
Always subjective as hell but very interesting that Libertine Pete didn’t make the last despite Libertine Carl coming in at #9. This magazine has always sworn by that band. BTW, Carl’s new single very cool!
Solid but unspectacular first single. Video is fine but I would have expected a bit more on both levels leading up to such an important release.
Good point about your idea of The Cure covering “The Suburbs”. You must have noticed The Drums cover is very “Cure-ish” as well. A slightly different sound for these Brooklyn boys.
Been a fan of these guys since I first heard “Let’s Go Surfing”. The more I hear “Down…” the more I like it.
I’m loving the consensus so far for Coachella 2011. Arcade Fire’s two previous appearances were major building blocks for them so it would be perfect for them to return. Radiohead would be special. Strokes? Maybe a #2 slot one night. Kings of Leon are due to return and they’d be winners in a headline slot.
Great having them back!! This one hit me right away and just might be the most accessible tune of theirs to date. Their challenge has been to get that live energy in the recording studio, and hoping they nailed it this time. Still singing this one to myself
Nice call! Thanks for tip. Vocals really interesting. Especially like “Window”.
The Echo is a perfect venue for this kind of band, crowd notwithstanding. I enjoyed Delorean at SXSW and really liked Dephic’s Echo gig recently. Again, a big crowd. I’m assuming newer bands like the idea of turn-away crowds for their initial LA appearances–it’s good for buzz if not comfort.
I like this better than the original! It’s a beauty. I’ll have to check out the Cranberries cover.
Two more nice songs, but that makes four that don’t have the character we love about this band. They’re one my fave bands. Imagine the pressure on these guys, given the enormous influence they’ve had on the last decade. Someone said they don’t sound like their imitators, which is fine as long as they remain unique in some way. So far, this all feels like Arcade Fire running at about 75%.
I really want them to give us one of the 2010′s top albums. The two new songs I’ve been living with are nice but lack the band’s usual character. Interesting to hear that their new songs don’t sound like the Arcade Fire imitators. That’s fine as long as the band breaks new ground on the album we’ll be hearing soon. Fingers crossed.

Holy shit does this sound good. Really can’t wait, and we need something that sounds like this!
