The song samples a Billie Holiday song called “Strange Fruit” from the 1930s. The song is about blacks being lynched and hung from trees and includes the line “blood on the leaves”. I think the sample Kanye used was from the Nina Simone version, but the original song is by Billie Holiday.
Yeah they were going to take that off and also the songs with the Coldplay and MGMT instrumentals and release it as Nostalgia/LITE. But it never happened
Def Jam was planning on re-releasing Nostalgia/Ultra but never did. They did release singles of Swim Good and Novacane though, so……..I’m still confused.
I was about to post a list of songs that were left off of this list but soon realized I’d be listing the majority of Aquemeni, ATLiens, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik and Stankonia.
Instead I’m just going to listen to all the songs they left off the list and have a great day.
