I’m fairly new to Stereogum, but I’ve been able to form a general idea on how comment voting works here:
disagreeing with the consensus: -2 to -10
including a gif: +5 to +15
asking a rhetorical question: +1 to +5
being a new member and posting a guide to how the comment voting on Stereogum works: ???
And to think Ezra considered quitting music…
I enjoyed Vampire Weekend’s first two albums…but this one is really something. An AOTY candidate for certain, this is going to be difficult for anyone to top.
The Tennessee Fire not getting enough credit, as usual. It’s difficult to put into words, but that album has more soul than just about any record I’ve listened to. “The Bear” in particular—what a song.
“Phoenix have never created bombastic music…”
I have to disagree. 1901′s massive chorus and Entertainment’s pummeling drums definitely qualify as bombastic in my opinion. And did you see the live performance of “Love Like A Sunset” at Coachella? Not all of Phoenix’s songs go huge, but their cannon certainly has its share of grandeur.
Mars actually says “folded, folded, folded” in 1901, even though “fold it, fold it, fold it” is in the albums’s lyric book.
Tap Out and Barely Legal, though very good songs, do not belong in the top 10 IMO. Each of the others I can understand the case for. My list (I’m sure it will change soon):
10. New York City Cops
9. The End Has No End
8. Under Cover Of Darkness
7. Take It Or Leave It
4. Last Nite
3. Hard To Explain
2. You Only Live Once
