Heard this when they played live with Grizzly Bear?sounds even better live!
Wow, this one slipped under the radar. I scored “The National Anthem Of Nowhere” for a buck during last year’s National Record Store Day, and they’ve become one of my favorite bands.
Hope they tour in support of it, would love to see them play live.
My sentiments exactly. It felt like they took these great songs that rocked live, and shoved them through the “studio magic” machine. Emily has a great voice, there’s no reason to put so much reverb and fancy effects all over it.
Really disappointed they didn’t include Freddie/Black Sheep, but seeing how some of my other live favs turned out, it may be for the best
Yeah, the Belly-Up tends to be full of people who came just to socialize rather than hear the actual music….your best bet is to get there earlier and snag those seats that are right next to the stage. I came to that show for Beach House and wasn’t disappointed, but I really wish they had been the headliners or played a longer set.
As far as their music putting you to sleep, their songs are actually quite a bit heavier played live. When they first started out they didn’t even have a drummer for their live shows, so it’s certainly picked up quite a bit from when I first saw them. The new material was great, wish they would have played “Used to Be”

No new material, she did a cover, can’t remember who it was she covered again, but it was quite something, especially with the single spotlight illuminating that hair!
