People actually listened to Mosquito past the first week of release? Uh, biggest let down of the year so far. On the other hand, yay for Laura Marling! Once I Was An Eagle is a masterpiece.
The uncut version of ‘Stay Together’ has got to be on here
A good record, but certainly their weakest effort. I love the fact that the YYYs are a chameleon-like rock group, and I’m really not longing for a return to the garage rock of Fever To Tell, but I just wish the songs on Mosquito had a bit more energy. It’s a very lethargic record, and I’ve got to agree with previous posters that the rockier numbers (Mosquito, Area 51) never really get going. In fact the much criticized rap spot is about the only thing that has a bit of zip to it.
we have ourselves a ‘grower’ people!
Um pretty sure THE BLACK KEYS have said they’ll be releasing an album in 2013…
Oh, and Laura Marling as well :)
severe lack of La Sera on any of these lists…
As much as I love Johnny Marr with every fibre of my being…bit boring ain’t it?
Still my favourite album of the year, far better than anything she’s done with Vivian Girls.
Plus, her hair…goddammit *collapses*
good to see Flea’s bass brought to the fore…
I know this because Tyler knows this
“and it seemed to augur the best Shins album since, perhaps, Oh Inverted World.”
But, but, Chutes Too Narrow is clearly their best album…right?
Port of Morrow is nice though. I think there’s a danger that we undervalue a talent like Mercer, who can summon up breezy, hummable melodies whenever the hell he feels like. That’s not easy.
