When he came through OKC in 2006, Saul Williams was his opener. The crowd wasn't that into him, but the end result was Niggy Tardust, so ultimately worth it for Saul hopefully.
I'm pretty sure this song should be called "Kwame"
Oh fully agreed there. I wouldn't have even known it was her (assuming it is) without someone telling me.
The stuff I've been reading is that Gaga is uncredited on it, which isn't mutually exclusive with having Anna Wise on there (and Tom seems to confirm that it's her above).
"That’s something else impressive: Kendrick’s MC Eiht collaboration made it onto the album, and his Lady Gaga collab didn’t." I realize it isn't "Partynauseous" but Lady Gaga is on the album as the female voice in "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe".
"It's stupid to call you a faggot but you're the faggot here, you fag-music-loving faggot" -Sam Nabors, decoded
There's your first mistake D Titty: wearing pants.
Wait, so was the whole verse dissing Nas not performed the first time Jay-Z did "Takeover" at Summer Jam?
Saying the Spurs are "about as fun to watch as linear regression" is such an obnoxious way to say "I didn't watch any Spurs games this year." (and I'm a Thunder fan)
By "game-changing" you mean a new low in modern minstrelsy, right?
Can you guys have a Deconstructing column on why Tom loves bellowing, proudly-ignorant rap (NTTAWWT)?
Hip-Hop has come so far. It used to be that only men were allowed to make shitty misogynistic songs with obnoxious beats. This song is a true feminist victory.
This is great! I always wanted to hear what Drake's ghostwritten verses that couldn't make the cut for a Wayne album sounded like!
What's really laughable is the idea that Childish Gambino and Drake made albums that were better than mediocre, much less the two best in their loosely defined genre.
Now I'm curious what you thought about Cold Day In Hell since I figured that was the obvious choice for MotW.
Re: Seattle’s rap landscape It will not surprise you to find that Seattle has a good set of backpack rappers (although obviously how you feel about backpack rap in the first place is a separate question) but if you're interested, check out Macklemore, Blue Scholars, and Common Market. Other than a certain degree of cleverness though, there doesn't seem to be a ton of overlap with their work and Nacho's work. Also, I'd like to add that I enjoy this series and hope that Stereogum keeps it going.
In the off-chance their blog doesn't cover it, he put out a nice little album called Before Taxes and Mello Music Group will email singles from him (and other people that you'd probably like if Diamond District/Oddissee turn your crank) if you join their list.
For only a 1.5% owner, Jay-Z is definitely getting a big return on his investment in terms of publicity
Yeah that culture of disrespect is a big problem. Always hearing people say things like "Only when it’s on while your mother is on my dick." or "This bitch gets way too much press for someone who has one Pitchfork-approved single." Thank you Michael_ for delivering us from such inane commentary and guiding the site in such a positive direction. Your sacrifice in the comment above mine will not go unnoticed. May your martyrdom free us all from a comment section polluted with trolling and insults.
