I like that he did this - it's important to keep people aware of this. By saying "we're too cynical we know this already" what you are really hoping for is continued submission and ignorance to these issues.
Also, you're equating art for profit with corporate sponsorships as the same thing which is... very inaccurate. It suggests to me that you have some stake in these kinds of shitty deals that have corroded the revolutionary/ethical integrity of music and other creative works for some time.
Yes, this has always been that way. If you're entering a creative field, you're much better off if you come from money and have resources. This is as true in 2012 as it was in 1966. And also true in many fields in addition to creative ones. But I don't think the new music landscape changes that constant truth in America any more or less then it always has been.
You seem to be mixing up trade school with college, g zuss. Also this has been an enjoyable, polite conversation for me to read until you showed up. Maybe stop before you type something like 'toilet paper degree' and think, "do I sound like an asshole?" Because.. you sound like an asshole.
Jack White started this tour at an NYC venue (Webster Hall) and played 2 full sets that night with the 2 different bands he is using. The next month he played another 2 nights in NYC at Roseland Ballroom playing lengthy, exuberant sets. Sorry. You will have to come up with other reasons why you are proud to live in the Midwest and for why you dislike NYC.
It's a good rule for me to never spend more then $37.50 on a ticket, with fees. As it gets more expensive the venue gets shittier, the crowd gets shittier, and your view gets shittier. If no one you like costs less then $37.50 your not listening to enough new music, which surprises me if you're on a site like Stereogum.
