these two are loopers of each other, but instead of fighting over the fate of the world they're fighting over something i don't understand.
if allison williams is gonna be jealous of anyone's career, it should be jon stewart's
i always picture him as shia lebouf.
maybe, just maybe, jennifer lawrence reads videogum. and maybe, just maybe, she wishes she could be a commenter.
hahah is that a dig at suri cruises's looks? you've ironically hoisted yourself by your own petard.
maybe you're right? it's very hard for me to say b/c in my experience, it's the "tone"*, not the word itself. like, in the two cases i've been called a "kike" it has seemed less vitriolic than the handful of times i was called a "jew" in a hateful snarl. *i have fully become my mother
try spending some time in the uk, they use it interchangeably w all other nouns.
haha i like that all these qualities seemed very much in line w becoming a comedy writer before. but now that you've read the article, you've reconsidered. anyway, i think the trick is to first think of what needs to be pointed out in a jokey manner, then work backwards to word it in a funny way. starting from cunt and working backwards is not the best approach.
yes, it's an inevitable risk of being in comedy that sometimes you cross a line. and it's totally ok and forgivable and forgettable as long as you apologize - just like normal people resolve conflict between themselves. BUT! if you're going to make an offensive joke, please make sure to include the joke part! daniel tosh casually referring to the possibility of a woman being gang-raped is NOT a joke. the fact that he said it is bad, the fact that anyone misinterpreted it as a joke is EVEN WORSE. same with this cunt thing. when louis ck calls his daughters cunts, it's funny b/c it's part of a joke.
also, tangential to your first point, who is erin? b/c she seems to be an emotionally and intellectually stunted woman-child who happens to be very pretty. it might not be ok for anyone to have dated her, starting from the borderline abusive weird power dynamic situation with gabe, then her boss andy... i guess pete is the least disturbing romantic partner she's had.
i know! and he's so lonely! and she's so lively and full of life! it seemed so utterly realistic in the moment. and just b/c a dude is hot doesn't mean he all of sudden has standards for casual sex, let's be real.
although i love the show, i completely agree! to me, it seems very clear that she's using her appearance to push people's boundaries. and as long as they're in vocal disarray about it, they're not getting the point. and that makes me sad for them b/c maybe it means they live in a dream world? or they're in denial? or that they will have a very hard time finding happiness? one or none or all of the above, maybe.
all the lena dunham/patrick wilson talk makes me so sad. it's right in the title: one man's trash is another man's comfort in an empty home after his wife leaves. it makes total sense, not everyone is visually calipering their mate's body 24/7. where's the uproar about dudes on tv/in movies hooking up with beautiful models all the time? i wish everyone would just stop it w how unsettling they find lena dunham's body - i hate what this turns me into.
even though i was one of those kids that would interview themselves in the bathroom mirror, between the advent of the internet and, just, all the evidence, of everything, i've come to conclude that being famous is the absolute worst. it is a no win situation! all the good stuff you get is completely outweighed by all the grossest stuff on earth.
dan harmon has been alive for too long to still be confused about his all-consuming self obsession. instead of cultivating an insane cult of personality, why not try some volunteer work?
my favorite part was Salma Hayek trying to be helpful to Paul Rudd when the teleprompter went out: "it's something about the best....?!?"
aw, well people like you are really the best antidote to that, so keep doin you. by which i mean 'consulting' for the Bluth company.
obviously religion can be a personal thing, and i respect your beliefs. i wasn't referring to all religious people (generalizing is terrible, my bad). i'm talking about the subset of religious people who feel a moral imperative to assert their will and their rules on everyone else. just like any self-righteous, close minded, singularly motivated group, that subset of religious people is dangerous because their inflexibility stems the tide of progress in society. one of the ways in which these groups reinforce their own power and cohesion is by sidelining reason. they are ideological because that's what sustains them. and, so, if you're religious and close minded and insular in the specific way that some of these communities are, then most likely you're too focused on the issue that is directly tied to religion (right to life) to try to understand some other very important, very pressing, very dire election issues.
trying to reason with a system that doesn't believe in the value of reason (it's faith over reason, and that is a virtue to the religious; faith is inextricably linked to morality) doesn't work. these people are vehemently pro life not because they don't understand your reasoning, or because they're too religious. they are pro life because - of all the myriad complicated issues being discussed in this election - killing babies is the only thing they can wrap their minds around.
unlike all these republicans, i'm not superclose bros with god. but it seems to me that if god is so into keeping unborn babies alive at all costs, he would make them abortion-resistant. instead of counting on rick santroum to spread the word on his own.
That's my friendly neighborhood Tazza, where I got my coffee this morning! Now I'm experiencing some dizziness & shortness of breath.
Why are we reading about this? A lot of people were involved before this got to my face and now I hate all of them. Especially THE POLICE, who sure spent a lot of time investigating this.
Taran is super underrated, esp when you consider that he's been around a long time & he has live sketch experience from MadTV. I think they're using him an appropriate amt for a new featured player, but I expect him to be one of the big SNL stars in a couple years.
I had such a crush on Kermit when I was a kid. That's probably what makes me such an enthusiastic furry to this day.
She seemed really nervous; that took a lot of the majestic, other-wordly energy out of her performance.
What is WITH SNL & the gross family sketches? In the '90s it was that family that chewed each other's food, in the aughts we get the Vogelcheks. SNL is like the annoying kid in middle school who repeats the same joke, louder & louder, until he's sure that EVERYONE in the room has heard it. To be serious, though, this is the best season of SNL in years.
No, it's a fair point. It seems like a trend, this cross-pollination of little-girly & sexy. I blame Zooey Deschanel for this!
1 unit of Real Talk, thought: Dakota Fanning is a college student of legal age. You may have gotten to know her as a child & , while she may not have gone the Miley Cyrus route of asserting her adulthood REAL HARD, she's still an adult. It's kind of not her problem that you still for some reason think she's a child even though you're presumably familiar w/ the concept of the passage of time. She's greater than or equal to a lot of models, age-wise. Plenty of very sexy bikini models & underwear models. So, it's fine? Also, is pretending you have a giant flower cock more sexualizing or more plain hilarious? Food for thought. But Elle Fanning is a tiny child who shouldn't be sexualized (although her ad... not really sexual. Maybe to some weirdo Riverside Park fetishists or something). I think people get confused b/c she's tall.
Brett Butler thinks rehearsing is for Jews.
You're old to me, but only b/c I love your work over at the Hairpin.
Aye Aye, captain. Here goes: "How did Micheal Douglas get to be the inaugural guest on Alec Baldwin's podcast?"
Oh, I disagree w/ you so much! Some people have connections w/in a single network/production co. Some people work on the same types of shows over & over. People who work repeatedly w/ children aren't necessarily child pornographers (see: early childhood educators). Also I doubt there was much "extra footage" that was sexually explicit. Your logic for identifying pedophiles is faulty, please don't apply it.
Only someone who can stomach unspeakable cruelty against children could watch Jon & Kate parent for that many years w/o quitting.
I just meant that the Invention of Lying was not a cute look for him & made him seem both tween girlishly navel-gazey AND overbearingly superior.
Ricky Gervais created one of the funniest TV shows ever. However! Evidence that he's an asshole: the Ricky Gervais Podcast. Evidence that he is a solipsistic pedant of the highest order: The Invention of Lying. The clues were there all along!
It was the perfect opportunity for SNL to do a Degrassi parody (my #1 wish in this life).
Kelly, 2 things: 1) it's spelled "Anna Faris" 2) I still really want to be best friends w/ you & nothing can change that
