The guitar solo from Ruiner by Nine Inch Nails. Damn thing comes out of nowhere and totally makes the whole song. It's also way over the and classic rock sounding which doesn't really fit but it wouldn't be as good without it. Weird. Awesome.
I'm sorry but NIN is pretty much the definition of one guy making decisions on how an album is composed so, as much as I appreciate Kim and Soundgarden, this seems like a poor angle to attack anybody from.
This is a hard one, but it has to be Revolver. That was the one that really got me hooked on the Beatles. I always liked Taxman for the gritty guitar solo but once I finally got to the pop turnarounds on And Your Bird Can Sing and the infectious psychedelia of Tomorrow Never knows, I was sold.
I thoroughly agree with this list except I would put Brighten The Corners between Slanted & Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. It was when they played Starlings of the Slipstream halfway through their set at Sasquatch two years ago that I knew I was going to be listening to this band for a very long time to come. Then they played Fight This Generation and it REALLY hit, but I particularly remember being really moved by Starlings when I saw them.
