No, he's self deprecating and awkward and he might poke a few jabs at the audience like you'd make fun of your friend. At the end he says a very heartfelt thanks for coming.
I can understand being a lifelong super fan of Kozelek and seeing him go off the deep end so to speak could be upsetting. But I think if any fan or band is offended by this, that's just oversensitivity. As a new fan of Kozelek and lover of his last 5 years of albums, this whole thing is just funny. Ya he's a troll, ya he's being a jerk, but jeez don't let it bother you. He doesn't give a fuck so why should you? It's harmless really and I'm looking forward to War on Drugs can Suck my Cock.
Tim and Eric scream and yell at their fans at their live shows, and while it's more obviously a joke, it's very funny. Kozelek is just much more dry and obtuse about it. I for one am fine with being called a hipster clone by him from the stage.
There is something about them making the same song over and over and using the same formula that I still really enjoy. By no means does this song sound new for them, but damn if it ain't fun to listen.
I wouldn't be surprised if Spotify somehow cracks down on this kind of behavior, not just for this album but all albums. Something like determining if a song is being played multiple times back to back and then not making the subsequent plays count toward earnings. They will ruin it somehow.
True, but it seems a bit odd that Duran Duran would expect to have to approve things if their contract is as such. It's not the first time they've had to license music.
How do large corporations continue to make the mistake of not licensing a song (and often an extremely popular and recognizable song) over and over again. Don't they have lawyers, or are they operating out of the back of a radio-flyer?
