Even more than lazy, the whole thing just seems empty to me. Call it performance art -- but then there's good art and bad art and also there's really fucking bad art. To me this seems like the latter because there's absolutely nothing on the line. Michael's right -- all Death Grips actually has to fear is bad press and pissed off fans. There's no real danger.
And somehow, to me the worst part has to be the toy drum set. Nothing lost by destroying it. They come off as not only trying to be punk (which in itself ain't punk), but as too conscious, pussy, etc. to actually risk losing something of value in displaying their art.
All in all just a weak move that'll nonetheless do great things for them in terms of publicity.

Also -- that cover art is awesome, and seems reflective of the two songs released so far: same aesthetic as their debut; just subtly tweaked.
I don't know. I think it sounds pretty cool. A jarring first, second, third listen, sure, but I never (rarely) feel like AC does jarring for the sake of it. There's definitely melody here -- all you "is it even a song??"-folk gotta check yourselves.
One thing I will say. My first listen was with shitty earbuds and a low-quality Youtube stream. A few hours later, I got to blast the track on my home rig. And it sounds killer. Maybe this is an album whose relentless makes most sense when it warps your speakers. Or live.
In any case, my hopes are high.

Perhaps one day the kid's band will create their very own Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
Really interesting song. Much more straightforward, I think, than his older stuff, with just about no looping or whistling to speak of.
If y'all happen to see Bird's TED talk from a while back, take note of the early version of this song he plays there -- the progression from demo to full track is really cool.
All in all, I'm psyched for this album.

I think it was 'too late' when his album hit number 2, with 104,000 copies. And just to be clear, my use of 'too late' was totally ironic. The idea that a band loses its appeal when gaining a larger audience is just so bogus it's not even funny.
