This is such a ridiculous exercise. But I'll hate you if you stop. Thank you for putting Tangled Up In Blue near the top.
I can't believe how little recognition Darkside's album is getting. I strongly recommend it. It's top three for me. I'm a little surprised to see Run the Jewels so low. I probably listened to that album twice as much as Yeezus (Though I wouldn't deny that Yeezus deserves a spot in the top three). Glad to see I'm not the only one who loved the new QOTSA and Arctic Monkeys records. I figured Hesitation Marks would crack the top fifty: did you guys hate it that much? I was pleasantly surprised by it.
Thank you for reminding me. It must mean something that I didn't think of them once while I was reading this list, but I thought there were a few gems on that album. I still listen to it a bit. A bit of a disappointment, but a top fifteen for me.
I loved the album. It's top ten for me, even though it was a bit uneven. I thought the top few songs stack up against their best.
Holy shit I forgot the new Arctic Monkeys record. That has gotten more playtime than any other record in my house. Nothing groundbreaking there, but damn it's an infectious and fun album. Catchy, danceable, interesting, and great vocal performances. So it's a relic from another time: who cares? It knows what it is and it's good at it.
Agreed on all counts. I though Like Clockwork was flawed and uneven, but a few of the songs seemed like instant classics to me. The highs were very high. MBV is also a top three for me. I listened to it consistently all year. And I think Government Plates is too new for them to process enough, which means this list is coming out way too early.
Can't believe Dirty Beaches didn't make the list. I know I loved the Queens of the Stone Age album more than most, so I'm not so surprised it's not here, though it's top ten for me. It's weird not to see Government Plates on the list. Maybe it's too new. But if that is the case, maybe a list like this should wait til January. Also, what about My Name is My Name? And I am kinda shocked to see Reflektor so high. I thought it was a bit more divisive than that. And what about Nick Cave's album? I thought it was pretty damn good. As you can see, I am a bit biased towards older artists. But that said, I would have liked Lorde's album to crack the top 50. I think she's great and has a bright future.
Fuck yes. I might have listened to this album more than any of the others. Glad I'm not the only one. It's a top five for me.
I might have missed it in the comments, but is anyone surprised that Psychic by Darkside didn't make the list? I've listened to it almost daily since it came out.
Let's hear everybody's favorites! I'm a GZA guy myself.
The samples and beats on this album are something special. I would gladly listen to an instrumental version of this album over and over. And that's saying something, given some of the incredible performances packed into this album.
Same thing for me. I grew up in an extremely religious household and there wasn't much secular music allowed. I got my hands on Siamese Dream pretty much by accident and it was my "aha" moment. It opened me up to rock and alternative music. I am who I am today because this record broadened my horizons so much.
This is news to me. Where are you getting your information? Touring what? He didn't tour in support of Bad As Me.
Sad, sad news. I was at the Bridge School Benefit Concert and the news was spreading like wildfire. There was so much anguish from all of the old hippies and rockers at the show. It was clear what sort of impact he has had on people's lives. My Morning Jacket and Neil Young and the other artists singing "Oh Sweet Nuthin" was crushingly poignant, and I'll never forget it.
This was an amazing moment. A lot of people were hearing the news of Lou Reed's death for the first time from the My Morning Jacket guy, and there was an audible gasp from the crowd. It was a very poignant tribute. It was definitely the main highlight besides Tom Waits' performance. (Queens of the Stone Age had a great set too. Very slinky and seductive. Josh Homme is really growing into his crooner persona)
This concert had the atmosphere of a church cookout until Tom stepped on the stage. It was an absolutely spellbinding performance. Stoned teenagers and stuffy old CSNY fans alike were captivated. I'm sure he made a lot of new fans last night. When his set was over, thousands of people started leaving. Clearly a ton of people were there just for him. That crowd was bonkers for him.
Sufjan is the fucking best. All I want for Christmas is another super-freaky Sufjan EP.
Great remix. The Knife have been the soundtrack to my life for the last year or so.
Yup. Just dropped in to see if Letter from an Occupant was number one. Maybe my favorite overall Neko Case song.
The Road to El Dorado! Not a disney. Picture the blonde guy from that movie dramatically and intensely strumming a mandolin-ish instrument. My work here is done.
