you compare a jam band to jazz? wow. that's not only a ridiculous stretch, but completely mis-informed. what kind of jazz are you referring to? modal? be-bop? what "jazz" can be even remotely compared to jam band-ism? oh, that boring jazz-fusion of weather report and mahavishnu orchestra? that shit sucks, as does your comment, as does your knowledge of music.
i believe he said: "...their jams were endless and, aside from some sorta interesting interaction/modulation during "Stash," pointless." it's true. i've seen phish something like 60 times, and once i quit smoking pot i didn't get them anymore. pointless and endless guitar noodling is basically musical masturbation in front of 100,000 people- once you strip phish of trey's guitar, and the awful lyrics of tom marshall, you have nothing, there really aren't any songs- so "pointless" is an apt description of phish. they are "important" however because of what they were able to create (as far as a "community" around a band is concerned) on tape trading/word of mouth/live shows/drugs/drugs/drugs in the early nineties.
really? not a single mention of the genius that is bill callahan's "sometimes i wish we were an eagle"? really? i mean, really? really
how is bret michaels newsworthy? ouch, stereogum...
nobody is doing the "greater than, less than" thing anymore, totally played out by the second week of april. go find a speak and spell if you want to do that
yo that link is shut down- go here: http://rs498.rapidshare.com/files/240560459/Terry_Urban_and_Gold_Coin_Clothing_-_Southerngold__Mixtape_.rar
yo i want this thing bleep bloop blip bam chka bam bam skreeeeee
wow. has p4k ever had to run this kind of damage control before? and the fact that so many posts saying this band is "overhyped", go right to the source- pitchfork is overhyped.
the reason all these losers are trouncing him is because let's face it, he wasn't shown in the greatest light in the wilco documentary and they are all mindless sheep. that being said, it's a sad day- you peeps need to stop overlooking the fact that jay was a major contributing force behind wilco as a "band".
yo dave, go fuck yiz self
lissen, old peepul frum philly don't wanna hear dis shit, ay'd say "go over dere to jersey if you wanna hear dis music, leave us alone" and den throw dis shit inna wooder. i know dis cuz my parents are frum philly and dey say dis shit to me evry day
Should we also have a 20-year anniversary party for the release of ProTools?
true dat, i totally got to the party late on this one. awesome live show as well. as for the video, more than decent. maybe mad decent? hella decent? hella mad
"post-rehab dad rock", eh? all my dad listened to when he got out of rehab was "ballad of the green berets" before walking into a mall with a gun and... oh, wait.
besides for the electronic stuff and the dubstep, i'd say this list is okay. i'm not into the bleep-bloop-blip-skreeeeeeeeee-bloop stuff too much. i still like guitars and hooks and choruses and whatnot. and the comment above mine is hilarious.
i remember when there wasn't so much anger in the indie rock world, everyone sort of helped each other out. now that's not the case. which is totally okay because the thing that pisses me off the most is all the tall people at shows now. where'd all you giants come from? there was never anyone over 5'9 at a pavement show. ever.
dear matt whitehurst- rodney anonymous called; he wants his vocal affectations back. oh, ps: psychedelic horseshit is just plain awful.
yih i r hav teh jay retard sonik yoof rekkid it wuz 5.99 i think
...did five stores here in the bay area: 1-2-3-4 go! in oakland, mod lang in el cerrito, rasputin and amoeba in berkeley and aquarius in SF. spent like 72 bucks on way too much shit, but if independent record stores are struggling, better help 'em out. i will kill myself if i have to start buying CDs again, and i hope you kill me if i have to do it at a best buy or a borders. viva la indierecordstore!
am i the only person to notice the riff from that opening song on the video (that no one probably watched) is pretty much the same riff from cameo's 1986 jamtastic party starter "word up"? take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKmtsN_gzMM no comment on dmb's music...
i think you're just really upset about the whole phil spector thing and you don't really know what it is you are saying.
your -10 proves that you're an ass-face.
i can agree with your statement that it's an awesome time to be a music lover; however- i'd love to see more "underground" hip-hop get a chance to flourish. it's a shame most people have no idea who aesop rock is, and part of the blame goes to "major" hip-hop acts. when a large record company is devoting so much money towards promoting their "product", filling up all the available ad space and polluting the mindscape by propping up an album that would probably sell just as much without it, i take umbrage. i don't want kanye's inferior "product" pitched to me; i know i don't like it already. please pitch me someone new that i haven't heard, please.
i'm just glad that wheatus guy posted again...
it makes me violently ill when artists refer to their music as "product". no wonder the music industry is in complete fail mode- semi-musicians like kanye look at their own work as something you buy like toothpaste. how rad for us sheep...

methinks this list is severely hampered by the "only one entry per artist" rule they've come up with. i'm in and out of various states of umbrage with this list. whack.

surprised they were able to film in oakland's chinatown without the use of noseplugs. it smells like fish and poo. fishy poo.
