Big Boi – “She Said OK” Video (Feat. Theophilus London) (NSFW)

A couple of months ago, Big Boi recruited the New York fashion-rapper Theophilus London for the soft-focus sex-jam “She Said OK.” And now we get a video for the song that appears to be made for late-night Cinemax. If Big Boi was going to make a video like this, you’d think he’d make it more… More »

The Top 20 Albums We’ve Been Waiting For Forever

In the June 2, 2012 issue of the NME, Kevin Shields said the long-awaited third album from My Bloody Valentine –- the first since 1991’s classic Loveless –- is imminent. The UK mag quotes Shields as saying the album will be released “sooner rather than later,” perhaps even this year.

Big Boi & Theophilus London – “She Said OK” (Feat. Tre Luce)

Yesterday, we learned that OutKast rapper Big Boi is working on a new solo album called Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors — good news, since 2010’s Sir Lucius Left Foot: The Ballad Of Chico Dusty whupped so much ass. And now we’ve got a new track, one that features Big Boi uniting with the fashionable… More »

André 3000 Plays Hendrix, Big Boi Names Album

It’s been years since the two members of OutKast got together to record an album, and a reunion doesn’t seem to be anywhere on the horizon for the moment, but at least they’re both working on things for the moment. The mercurial André 3000, for one, has taken a break from his current gig a… More »

Hear The 13 Minute Version Of “DoYaThing”

Earlier this week, we posted a radio rip of “DoYaThing,” the new Converse-sponsored Gorillaz/James Murphy/Andre 3000 collab. Despite an on-fire Andre verse, the original version of that track felt a bit lopsided and awkward, like these guys were trying to cram as many ideas as possible into a single track. But talking to Pitchfork yesterday,… More »

Gorillaz – “DoYaThang” (Feat. James Murphy & Andre 3000)

“DoYaThing,” the previously-announced blockbuster collaboration from the Gorillaz, James Murphy, and Andre 3000 is now online in radio-rip form, and we’ve got it streaming below. As promised, Damon Albarn quasi-raps a couple of verses before Andre jumps onto the track and generally rips him to shreds. Also, Murphy sings the chorus in a weirdly squeaky… More »

Ten Hip-Hop Albums That Would Make Great Performances

Somehow, billing an artist to play their most famous release, exclusively, got super vogue all of the sudden. Nas did Illmatic. Erykah Badu did Baduizm. A Tribe Called Quest did Midnight Marauders. So, yeah, some good stuff got covered, but what else is there? In appreciation of the ever-strong Rock The Bells festival series, and… More »

How Independent Rockers Celebrated #IndependenceDay

How did you celebrate July 4th? On a rooftop BBQ listening to our summer mix? Maybe you stayed in and watched old episodes of Hoarders on Roku? Maybe I stayed in and did that. There is no way to know. But all across this great country we do know there were fireworks to be see… More »

Reunited OutKast Outtake Surfaces

The photo above is part of the press kit for 2006’s Idlewild, the last OutKast project to get an official release. Obviously it’s been a while since Andre 3000 and Big Boi worked together, which is why it was a bummer that both Andre 3000 appearances on Big Boi’s Sir Lucious Left Foot were cut… More »

Big Boi And The Roots Do “Shutterbugg” On Fallon

As he did on Leno the other night, Big Boi brought the Sir Luscious smoker “Shutterbugg” to late night TV, with a band on hand to recreate the cut’s freaky talkbox syncopations and right-brained funk bed. Only this time, he just relied on the late night show in question’s house band. Smart. More »

The 25 69 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2010

This year in music was great and we’rea gonna let it finish (sorry), but in terms of notable album releases the ship has sailed. No offense, 30 Seconds To Mars. While the Gummys’ virtual poll booth remains open for a few more days (did we mention filling out the ballot enters you to win the… More »

Oscar’s Making His Picks

We’re already commiserating over this year’s Grammy nods, but it’s never too early to get unexcited for the Oscar nods for Best Original Song. Relevance aside, how cool would it be if Spoon or DeVotchKa took home an Oscar? The eligible Outkast cut (“PJ & Rooster”) is really hot too (Dodge‘s got it). But a… More »

New Fantasia Video – “Hood Boy” (Feat. Big Boi)

It’s a sordid affair, keeping track of American Idol alum; one day you’re impressed by Kelly’s choice of bassist, next thing you know the Clay-gagging-Ripa send-up is practically the most covered aspect of the American Music Awards. Somewhere in between is Fantasia Barrino and her new track, which features a few verses from Outkast’s Big… More »

Time‘s All-Time 100 Albums

The music mavens at the venerable Time magazine have compiled their list of the “ALL-TIME 100″ albums — unranked and broken down by decade. We’re not sure what’s better: that only five albums of the past five years are among their 100 greatest, or that four of those five were by people who were deadMore »

Hives Admit Other Bands Exist

Late last week, we were wondering what ever happened to the Hives. Then we realized they weren’t very good, were they? So who cares.

However, we do like hearing contemporary cover songs, so thanks to all the readers who sent us a link to the band’s live medley on Swedish TV Friday night. Here’… More »
