15 Coachella 2012 Performances Not To Miss

COACHELLA BACK. And, this year, the bacchanalia stretches across two weekends featuring identical lineups, as well as an interim week of non-Coachella shows in L.A., so if you’re looking for live music in your city and there’s none to be had outside of that one bar band that always plays Happy Hour on Tuesdays at… More »

Spank Rock – “Car Song (Shabazz Palaces Remix)” (Feat. Santigold)

Last year, Spank Rock teamed up with Santigold on “Car Song,” a track that appeared on his album Everything Is Boring And Everyone Is A Fucking Liar. Now, Seattle art-rap duo Shabazz Palaces have remixed the track, transforming it into sputtering, murky bass music but keeping its catchiness fully intact. Listen to it below. More »

Stereogum’s 25 Most Anticipated Albums For Spring/Summer 2012

HBO’s medieval drama Game Of Thrones premieres April 1, and this season’s plot involves five different claims to the throne and these respective factions’ ongoing clobbering of one another (#TeamRobb). But, yet another mantle is up for grabs, one that involves absolutely nobody getting their head cut off; the claim to “your album of the… More »

Deconstructing: Santigold

Santigold is the best, biggest pop star, and the perfect person to rep our pre-apocalyptic polyglot universe. We already had a hunch about this on her debut album, Santogold, which dropped in 2008 and was so strong she was able to tour on it for a good two years post-facto, and exemplified her past i… More »

Santigold – “Disparate Youth” Video

This morning, Santigold debuted the video for her new single “Disparate Youth,” and it’s a pretty striking one. In the clip, Santigold rides a motorcycle and a speedboat through some gorgeous Caribbean locale before wandering into some sort of voodoo-type magical ritual. It’s all very Serpent And The Rainbow. Santi co-directs it alongside Sam Fleischner. More »

Santigold: LMFAO Makes Me Cry

Speaking with Pitchfork on Friday, Santigold very colorfully goes into detail about recording her new record as well as her thoughts on the pop landscape. But, you know, since this is Where’s The Beef?, we’re totally gonna pick out the part where she talked shit. Behold:… More »

Santigold – “Disparate Youth”

Last month, Santigold gave us “Big Mouth,” her first new single in forever. And today, she follows it up with another new one from her forthcoming album Master Of My Make-Believe. This one is called “Disparate Youth,” and it’s a catchy and bottom-heavy new-wave track that could’ve fit in just fine on her first album. More »

Stereogum Monthly Mix: January 2012

Here it is, the first mix of The Last Year. So far we’ve had a flood of good music these first few weeks of 2012, which in fairness is probably just the result of bands wisely holding back on releasing things into the holiday void that is the winternet, but let’s be optimistic about it… More »

Santigold – “Big Mouth”

This week Santigold played a pair of sold-out shows at Music Hall Of Williamsburg as a way of trumpeting her long-awaited return to the fore. The sets were immaculate and theatrical, smart and silly, and full of the sort of dancehall and dancesteps that’d make Skerrit Bwoy go dagger-up. Directly on their back comes “Big… More »

Santigold Debuts New Material @ Music Hall Of Williamsburg 1/16/12

Santigold’s roots are in punk (via her old Philly band Stiffed) as much as they are label A&R (via her tenure as an Epic Records agent), so be not surprised by her outright gaming of The System when it turned its gaze on her. There was one great album, which spawned a great mixtape, memorable… More »

Amadou & Mariam – “Dougou Badia” (Feat. Santigold)

Amadou & Mariam’s new LP, Folila is out in March, and the record features a slew of notable collaborators alongside longtime cohort and producer Marc-Antoine Moreau. Spank Rock – “Car Song” (Feat. Santigold)

“I took New York like Cloverfield.” That’s Spank Rock on “Car Song,” the Santigold collab from his new album Everything Is Boring And Everyone Is A Fucking Liar. I like that line, mostly because people don’t talk about Cloverfield enough. Cloverfield is a fucking great movie, you guys. More »

Beastie Boys (Feat. Santigold) – “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” Video

Santigold Talks LP2

Santi White is close to releasing the followup to her debut Santogold after logging sessions in New York, Los Angeles, and Jamaica. You heard the post Santo track “GO,” which featured Karen O, Nick Zinner, Q-Tip, and Switch in varying capacities, and the collaborator list for the full platter is similarly diverse: According to Billboard,… More »

The Lonely Island & Santigold – “After Party”

The Lonely Island’s “After Party” riffs on R. Kelly’s peerless “Ignition (Remix)” and features guest hooks from Santigold about jerking off, among other things. Like “Attracted To Us,” the Snoop Dogg-guesting title track, and “We’re Back,” it appears on Turtleneck And Chain (out 5/10). Take a listen at Some Kind Of Awesome. More »

Santigold – “GO” (Feat. Karen O)

“People want my power, and they want my station.” The first listen from Santigold’s Santogold followup is a call to arms and a declaration and its credits read like the intersection of aural worlds and styles that was her last album (and, apparently, this one): Nick Zinner on guitar, Switch and Santi and Q-Tip o… More »

80 Other Bands With Official Sneakers

Last week the Animal Collective bros released an official mixtape for their new … sneakers. That is a thing now. Gotta keep fans on their toes (ouch, sorry). The shoes which you can see here benefit the Socorro island Conservation Fund, and they are cruelty free, except to your eyes.

Duck Sauce – “Barbra Streisand” Video

About the only person who doesn’t appear in crate-digging duo Duck Sauce’s new video is the actual Barbra Streisand. Instead, Armand Van Helden, A-Trak, and a Baba impersonator are joined by Kanye West (+ his chair), Questlove, Pharrell, Chromeo, Vampire Weekend, Santigold, Yelawolf, Diplo, DJ Premier, and various other anonymous and sorta well-known others. National, Walkmen, Santigold, St. Vincent Dress Up For GQ

MGMT hit the Coachella stage playing their generally freakier Congratulations material in relatively human clothing, which prompted me to posit an aesthetic axiom: The weirdness of MGMT’s music is inversely proportional to that of their clothes. GQ’s taking that to a further extreme with a fashion spread/feature they’ve titled “Rock The Suit,” putting your iPod… More »
