The Gaslight Anthem – “You Got Lucky” (Tom Petty Cover)

Way back on “Even Cowgirls Get The Blues,” a song from their breakout album The ’59 Sound, the Gaslight Anthem were namechecking Tom Petty. This is back when they were more or less considered a punk band. And now that they’re just a festival-conquering rock band, it makes sense that the Gaslight Anthem would be… More »

The Gaslight Anthem – “45”

A couple of years ago, the Gaslight Anthem rose to prominence in circles where straight-ahead, hearty young punk bands barely ever find ways to matter. In modern-rock radio and in cool-kid publications, the aesthetic descendents of the Bouncing Souls might as well not exist, at least when they’re not making dizzily plotted-out concept albums or… More »

Springsteen Joins Gaslight Anthem In Asbury Park

“We didn’t forget where we came from, right?” asked Gaslight Anthem lead singer Brian Fallon Friday Night at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, which was an immediately recognized hat-tip; the crowd immediately launched into a deep “BRUUUUUUCCEE.” And their king arrived to perform “American Slang” with the Jersey alt rockers. Check out the video… More »

Glastonbury 2011 In Photos & Video

Beyoncé doesn’t normally play festivals, but by all accounts she killed it at Worth Farm last night. After her Glasto headline performance the star told BBC she was so nervous playing for 175,000 people she sent Chris Martin her setlist to approve in advance. Of course between solo hits, Destiny’s Child favorites, and a medley… More »

Gaslight Anthem Cover Pearl Jam’s “State Of Love And Trust” For Fallon

It’s a certain Garden State patriot that the Gaslight Anthem are forever indebted to — a lineage they honor proudly — though last night the band filed a searing cover of a grunge-era jewel as their web exclusive/bonus joint for Jimmy Fallon. Enough to fuck with the family tree? Maybe on a track-only basis, though… More »

The Gaslight Anthem – “Boxer”

The Gaslight Anthem get their share of Springsteen references. Not surprising — they’re working-class rock guys from Jersey who like to tell stories about the everyday. (And, yeah, they’ve covered their elder.) You get some blue-collar poetry in the title track of their third album American Slang (6/15 via SideOneDummy) and to continue, to continue… More »

The Gaslight Anthem – “American Slang”

Even if you’re not from Jersey, you should give a listen to the title track from Gaslight Anthem’s forthcoming American Slang. It’s a good one, complete with dead friends, epic battles between angels and devils, gallows, tattoos, and fortunes told in American slang. It’s streaming at MySpace. The album’s due in June. More »

Glastonbury 2009: Blur Make Triumphant Return, Everyone Covers MJ

Aside from some heavy rains on Thursday and some quick showers Sunday, the throngs at Worthy Farm this year enjoyed some of the best weather in Glastonbury history. In return, the impressive lineup — featuring headliners Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, and memorable sets from Blur, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Lily Allen, Spinal Tap, etc. More »

New Gaslight Anthem Video – “The ’59 Sound”

It’s actually the Springsteen fans’ full-performance take from the more conceptual, little kid-starring official video. Which is why they’re going to town in an empty living room. Thing is, you don’t need concepts with a song like this, the lyrical storytelling takes care of that. The best recorded performance might’ve been the one the New… More »

Coachella 2009: Cure, MBV, Antony Assault The Sound System

Surprise, it wasn’t My Bloody Valentine’s 15-minute aural assault “You Made Me Realise” that caused Sunday’s biggest audio mishap. Organizers cut the speakers during the Cure’s “Fire In Cairo” (two songs into a third encore) only to watch the band play three more songs before the power was killed completely, forcing Robert & Co. to… More »

Indie Rockers Hang Out On E Street

In case you didn’t know: Many bands have been influenced by Bruce Springsteen. Not Superbowl crotch-shot Bruce, but the guy who put together Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J., The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle, Born To Run, Nebraska, Darkness On The Edge of Town, Born in the U.S.A., etc. He’s released a… More »

Gaslight Anthem Serve Letterman “The ’59 Sound”

Gaslight Anthem are a clean cut pop punkish/rock ‘n’ roll band from New Brunswick, NJ. I lived in New Brunswick during some formative years, so I understand where they’re coming from, even if it’s not a place I go to very often at this point. Still, the anthemic title track from The ’59 Sound –… More »
