Hiss Golden Messenger's winding, scraggly roots-rocker Lateness Of Dancers is one of those 2014 albums you should really make sure not to overlook. The North Carolina moaner M.C. Taylor did musical-guest duties on the Late Show With David Letterman last night, bringing a full band with a horn section and backup singers and everything. Taylor himself, it turns out, has a hell of a stage presence, too. Playing the Lateness Of Dancers track "Southern Grammar," Taylor effectively made his project over as a rollicking, muscular Southern rock band, and it sounded pretty awesome. The whole thing punched Letterman himself in his sweet spot; he practically jumped out of his shoes when it was over. Check out the performance below; it's a good one.

Lateness Of Dancers is out now on Merge. I'm not worried about anything.
