Dorian Electra, the electro-pop artist who featured on Charli XCX's Pop 2 tape and has since lent official remixes to 100 gecs and Lady Gaga, has shared a couple of covers over the past couple of weeks. First came a rendition of Bob Dylan's 1965 folk staple "Mr. Tambourine Man," then a take on the contemporary classic "Feel Good Inc." by Gorillaz. Today, Dorian is back with their reimagining of Peter Bjorn & John's 2006 indie smash "Young Folks," along with the inevitable news that a full covers album is on the way. Out in April, it's brilliantly titled Dorian Electra.
It looks like the full Dorian Electra tracklist is under wraps for the time being, but judging by the three singles we've heard, it's going to be a real eclectic mix of source material. The covers themselves, though, so far feel cohesive: Dorian breaks down "Mr. Tambourine Man," "Feel Good Inc.," and "Young Folks" and rebuilds each of them into off-kilter synth-pop jams that feel entirely on brand for them. It's a real labor of love to be able to pull that off.
