Olivia Rodrigo is officially three-for-three on sending her albums' lead singles to the top of the chart. Like "Drivers License" ahead of Sour and "Vampire" before Guts, "Drop Dead," our first taste of Rodrigo's forthcoming you look pretty sad for a girl so in love, has debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100. Because "Good 4 U" also hit #1 (it happens to be featured in our latest Number Ones column), Rodrigo is now up to four career #1 hits.
Per Billboard, Rodrigo was already the first artist to send the lead singles from her first two albums to #1. She now becomes the first to pull off the feat three times. All four of her chart-topping singles have debuted at #1. She's also the only artist born this century with multiple Hot 100 #1 hits. (Others born post-2000 with one #1 hit to their name include 24kGoldn, Billie Eilish, Jawsh 685, the Kid Laroi, Tate McRae, and Alex Warren.)
"Drop Dead" drops Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" to #2 after seven nonconsecutive weeks at #1. Bruno Mars' former chart-topper "I Just Might" is at #3, while Olivia Dean's #2-peaking "Man I Need" falls to #4. (It deserved to hit #1 at some point!) Langley's "Be Her" clocks in at #5, followed by Warren's "Ordinary" at #6 and Dean's "So Easy (To Fall in Love)" at #7. Rounding out the top 10 are Justin Bieber's "Daisies" at #8, HUNTR/X’s "Golden" at #9, and Kehlani's "Folded" at #10.
In other Rodrigo news, after debuting a new Weyes Blood collab at a secret LA show last Friday, she made her way across the country to Brooklyn venue Pete's Candy Store to perform "Drop Dead" at open mic night Sunday. In between, she was on Josh "Bru" Brubaker's radio show The Bru Show to discuss which sets she saw at Coachella around her surprise appearance with Addison Rae. "I saw Nine Inch Nails, which was incredible — like, one of the best shows I've ever seen," she said, referring to NIN's clubby Boys Noize collab Nine Inch Noize. "I saw them at the Forum the other day too and they were insane. I saw David Byrne, who I love. His show was outstanding. And I did see Bieber." She was a big fan of his use of a laptop to juxtapose his younger self with his current adult self.
Rodrigo, who in a previous visit to The Bru Show said she sleeps 16 hours a night, offered tips for getting a good night's rest: "I've said it before, but I just feel like it's having a clean conscience. I don't regret anything." She will do double duty as the host and musical guest on this Saturday's Saturday Night Live.
