Modest Mouse @ Hollywood Palladium 2/24/09

With Johnny Marr off turning his seasoned tricks for the Jarmans, Modest Mouse recruited ex-Grandaddy guitarist Jim Fairchild for this twelve date tour. Seems it was a good choice. These shows are being hailed as fiery and focused, which couldn’t always be said about those Marr-dest Mouse sets. The list of songs touched each point on the discog (Lonesome’s “Trailer Trash,” four from The Moon…, two from This Is A Long Drive…, five from Good News), with only “Education” and “Dashboard” from We Were Dead…, all of which is good news for people who like bashing that latest record’s direction. Also performed: new song “Satellite Skin.” The tour wraps up in the first week of March; sounds like a good one for lovers of deep cuts. Joining Modest Mouse in this set of shots is openers Japanese Motors and Mimicking Birds, all by photog Andrew Youssef. The rest of this tour’s dates and last night’s setlist:
