Yay Parenthood! It's the TV show I both relate to the most & the least.
Also I have a conditioned response to cry anytime Lauren Graham & her daughter are onscreen at the same time.
Can we talk about TAL for a second? I, too, listened to a lot of their back catalog. Once I got thru most of it & started to only listen to more recent episodes, I noticed a marked decline in quality over time. (I'm sorry!) Also, in that WTF interview, Ira Glass sounded totally over it. I am registering my concern.
It bothers me how rarely people talk about Friends anymore. It literally taught me everything I know & really prepared me to face people's "commitment issues" which, as a kid, I def did not believe was a thing.
If memory serves, it was "Ms." And my memory is basically a database of Friends quotes, so my accuracy on this issue is tied up indistinguishably with my self-worth. And it is "Courteney Cox". Confirmation tk.
Touche! But also kind of not touche. Degrassi is amazing, don't get me wrong. But there was something so perfect about BH's too-bright colors, unattractive cast, bizarre sexual tension & overall hilariousness. It was so short-lived that it captured that magic & maintained consistent awesomeness (whereas Degrassi has been through some ROUGH patches).
That album is seriously delightful & I like him more b/c he didn't care to promote it. And he was really cute with those kids. Ugh great I'm back in love with Ryan Gosling.
No way, I talk about Breaker High all the time! Canadians are awesome at making TV, though Degrassi can have a million teen pregnancies & it still wouldn't live up to BH's awesomeness.
THANK you. I felt the same about Severus saying "you have your mother's eyes" & then cut to Lily ... with eyes as black as the night. Really? No color contacts in the budget, just to make that one moment less jarringly ridiculous?
Well, one way would've been to make them look... not awful. Flesh colored beards & sensible shoes & mom haircuts UGH. The ravages of time, I guess?
Anyway, though, the epilogue was completely redeemed in that one moment where Hermoine steps aside & there's her & Ron's youngest son. Looking even redder & more awkward than I could've ever dreamed.
Love ya, Gabe, but was there ever any doubt? Like, was Gabe ever going to be into the Harry Potter books or movies? I'm still waiting for Gabe's probing yet hilarious & insouciant takedown of ice cream or grandparents.
I honestly think he was trying to get caught, cry for help-style. Even just sexting on twitter is risky territory. I think it prob gave him a big grey boner to do it in front of peoples' faces.
Otherwise I really respect & like him. Whatever... smallest skeleton I've ever seen, needs a cupboard instead of a closet, etc.
If you liked Arrested Development, you should give Parks & Recreation more of a shot. They're similar in that, the more you get to know the characters, the more hilarious the show becomes. Also, last night's episode was an emotional payoff & not really representative of the usual tone of the show.
Oh man. I went to Burning Man this year, and people there are straight crazy about HAARP & chemtrails & all sorts of other it-affects-all-of-us-in-equal-measure-with-no-observable-effects bullshit. It really took the edge off the MDMA & Sublime cover bands :(
Not to make this Debbie Downergum but the John Mulaney bit could have been much better. Everything from his CD is better than the tired, overwrought observations about a million-year-old tradition that everyone came to terms with circa the Bronze Age. They couldn't have given him something better to work with? He seemed so jittery and befuddled. So did the audience. Better material for the lovely John Mulaney, please!
Also, no mention of Stephon?
