Both of the first two singles are solid, but feel like they would be filler songs on Forced Witness or Miami Memory rather than lead singles for an album. I think they'll grow on me as I keep listening, but last album's run of singles being Miami Memory, Divorce, and Far From Born Again connected with me immediately.
This is an absolutely wild take hahaha
Man this sucks. Roadrunner was my favorite album by them and really thought they were coming into their own sound. They're sure to make solo records, but I worry the magic will be lost... Kevin's album ARIZONA was solid and had some great songs, but just wasn't the same.
Tom brought it up in his write up above, but I was shocked to see J.I.D. above both Vince Staples and Denzel Curry on the Coachella poster. J.I.D. is crushing it though and I'm excited for him... I got the chance to see him at Mo Pop in Detroit pre pandemic and he put on a hell of a show.
If you're pretentious and obnoxious.... You might be an asshole. I love Jack White's music. I also think he can be pretentious, obnoxious, and an asshole. You can have all of those things.
Reminds me a bit of Pinegrove and Typhoon mixed together. This will also be a track on my songs of 2022 playlist that will destroy my ears when wearing headphones with the sharp opening horns if I've got my volume even slightly too loud.
I brought this up in the other thread, but this feels bigger than almost any album released in 2021. Don't get me wrong, 2021 had some fantastic releases, but this is just a gem from start to finish. This album feels like The Weeknd does Random Access Memories... but maybe better.
God damn the seamless transitions...
Holy shit this is so good. This is probably way too hot of a take, but this already feels like a bigger album than anything in 2021. There were some great albums last year, but this feels like an instant classic.
Feels like a throwback Radiohead track!! Feels good to hear Thom bringing the energy again.
JUSTICE FOR THE DESSNERS!!!! In all seriousness though, shocked that Cyrano didn't end up on the shortlist for score or song.
This has been the year of Griselda for me, specifically Westside Gunn. Was a big fan of HWH8.
Million Times is such a great track. Forgot to add that to my list.
1. Assisted Harakiri - Home is Where 2. Liquor Store - Remi Wolf 3. "Listen to Your Heart. No." - Cheekface 4. Phoenix - Big Red Machien 5. Weights - Bartees Strange 6. The Wheel - IDLES 7. Margiela Split Toes - Westside Gunn & Mach-Hommy 8. estella// - Kennyhoopla 9. T.L.C. - Turnstile 10. WHATS THE OCCASION - Brockhampton I tried to limit myself to one song per artist, so there are a few others I would consider in my top 10... Home is Where, Remi Wolf, and Cheekface all had other songs I would consider in my top 10. Other songs that I considered: Charmander - Amine The Hardest Cut - Spoon VBS - Lucy Dacus I Don't Live Here Anymore - War on Drugs Scatter Brain - Conway the Machine Jazz on the Autobahn - The Felice Brothers Say What You Will - James Blake Good Girls - CHVRCHES
I haven't really enjoyed much beyond Chaise Lounge and Wet Dream. With that being said, they haven't released many songs as a band yet, and the fact that I enjoy two of them immensely is a great sign. I'll definitely be keeping them on my radar.
Assisted Harakiri by Home is Where has been my jam all year long. So much energy from start to finish. Absolute jam.
Figured it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmh4TcLIFsA
The DOO DOO DOO part reminds me of another track but I can't put my finger on it....
I'm slightly biased due to The National being my favorite band of all time, but it's amazing how many quality tracks come from this band. Style wise, this isn't anything groundbreaking, but it's a beautiful piano backed trackwith the boys back together. I would argue it's on par (or just slightly below) I think You Should Wait or Exile Vilify for other songs on soundtracks. Totally agree with Turd though, I need those Devendorf drums back in my life soon.
Wonderful name. Was hoping for more of a Carly Rae Jepsen theme, but I'll be listening! Thanks for additional content!
