Trust's debut definitely needs some more shout outs. It was on my top ten.
Tomorrow is a pretty good song but not worthy of any top 25 spots though. Plus their album was extremely disappointing.
2012: The year everyone forgot to Put their Back N 2 It.
Am I the only who thinks Pitchfork's 2012 obsession over Grimes is much better than if corporate Lana Del Rey would've started out the year on a good note with P4K? I'm just glad to have such charismatic girls making really good and interesting pop music such as Grimes, Sky, and Solange. On another note, I agree, Oblivion is most definitely not song of the year. I thought "Yet Again" by Grizzly Bear was the obvious one this year. Apparently, I was mistaken.
Who else thinks that Major Lazer and Amber Coffman's "Get Free" is criminally low on this list?!
He sure did, he didn't look to good with that combination. I think we should have Stereogum Commenter Crush list 2012. I wonder how Rubberjohnny would fare. I also just remembered we forgot about how hot both members of Trust are. What a lesbian and gay duo. http://cdn.stereogum.com/files/2012/01/trustnewsmall.jpg
Damn, Winona is looking good these days.
You killed it this week man, congrats!
Haven't been feeling Chan since the haircut sadly....
All the Italians Do It Better girls are babes....Am I the only one who thinks Johnny Jewel is a total babe too?
I thought I was the only one! And he can build a bad ass light rig, +5.
Can we have a worst list? http://karlismyunkle.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/grimes-genesis-directed-by-claire-boucher-co-starring-brooke-candy.png
This man got snubbed so badly....What a face.
You forget the couple bisexuals too. Don't see the sex appeal in Frank Ocean at all or Fiona Apple. Who else thinks a Sufjan and Annie Clark kid would grow up and be the sexiest motherfucker ever?
Pass this on, won't you?
Can we revote for indie crush of the year?
Oh man, totally forgot to vote for the "Met Before" vid. It was definitely one of the best this year.

It's nice seeing the blueprint of one of my favorite albums of the year. That being said, I'm sure glad they embellished these ideas. I don't know what I would've done with a crappy "ahahahuh" from Caroline on Amanaemonesia.
Who else watched this only to see Annie Clark sing about having fun?
I for one think that Every Single NIght is catchier than Call Me Maybe, to those who believe a song's worth is valued on said "catchiness". So really what does Carly Rae Jepsen have on Fiona...
I'm liking where Unsane's Wreck is on the list, nice work Michael. Now we need a Stereogum's Top 40 Slutpop albums of 2012 and I want to see Taylor Swift as an honorable mention.
Oh man me too! I couldn't stop watching Alison give these hilariously bitter interviews of Black Cherry. Not to mention the killer deep cuts on that record: Deep Honey, Tiptoe, Slippage. Felt Mountain is one of the best records I've ever heard too. I hope they work on something I can obsess over again. Head First was disappointing. I mean a 7.4 is quite a good score for a debut, and they did say some quite positive things about it but it's not enough to make their top 50. I'm hoping for an honorable mention though. Same here, it sounds incredibly dated. Not to mention that terrible eagle sound effect on Cherokee. I do like that Chan is experimenting though. To me it reminds a lot of Kate Bush's record The Red Shoes, when all the drums went digital and edgy for the time but it really hid what could've been outstanding songs and melodies. Completely agree on the Fiona aspect. To me The Idler Wheel... feels so much more timeless and compelling than Sun. At least it got some love here!
This could've made the video a bit better. http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8cdh1YGrm1qd1znyo1_500.jpg
I know! It's like a giant compilation of lost 90's goth-dance hits. Gorilla VS Bear also left them out, hopefully Pitchfork, though highly not likely. They gave it a lukewarm 7.4. Not a big fan of Cat Power's Sun either, I like a couple tracks off it but for some reason I don't think her voice works too well with really cheap sound drum machines and synths. By the way, I believe your icon picture is Goldfrapp circa Black Cherry, another greatly underrated band. Seems like we think alive blackdove24.
I'm sad to say MIA has lost all relevancy.
Oh man I cracked up with this list. BEST COAST is at 14? Oh man what a fucking joke. I do have to admit it's nice seeing Azealia Banks's EP 1991 on the list. Been my guilty pleasure all year.
Once again no Perfume Genius? And no Trust? I thought it would've been the sleeper hit because they loved Austra so much last year! And what's up with all this Taylor Swift brown nosing! Besides that the list is looking pretty goddamn healthy, nice job SG!

This is what you call a truly awesome mix.
When I first started with Scott Walker, Scott 4 was the first one I really fell in love with, so I'd recommend that's a good start. Bisch Bosch is going to take me some time to warm up to though, nice to see him back though.
As a bisexual myself, I am happy to see Frank Ocean represent in all these lists but in purely musical and personal terms I definitely think Perfume Genius's record was more powerful and meaningful to me than Channel Orange. They were also completely different albums as well. I think one of the key factors on why Perfume Genius is being overlooked is due to the very queer oriented themes in his music. This may impede a large majority of music writers (most are heterosexual males) to be able to identify with the album. On the other hand Channel Orange is more ambiguous in his subject matter, making it easier for a listener to interpret it in different ways. I still believe Perfume Genius's music can be identifiable to straight people though, but not the majority.
I bet the party was intense with a brass band.
I agree completely. Can't wait to see Lana Del Rey battle out with Johnny Jewel and Pussy Riot.
I'm going to continue to bitch about how bad Perfume Genius is getting snubbed this year in all the year end lists. That was one of the best records of the year in my opinion. I know Pitchfork and hopefully Stereogum give it some love.
Johnny Jewel, person of 2012?
I only agree with one thing on here. Lana Del Rey did make a better album than the dud Love This Giant was.
