and we'd all applaud if he shrugged and played it off like arcade fire's still not a huge act? if he'd have said something along the lines of "i can see why people would call us dorks, we're just a tiny indie act," he'd be derided for being naive and trying to be someone he's not.
dude gave an honest answer to a question in an interview, which the interviewer then played up in his write-up. when did we start latching on to soundbites from interviews with people in bands we like as if it's a presidential campaign?
Doesn't sound like it was copy infringement, though, per Duran Duran's statement: "this particular license was granted without any prior notification to any of us." Sounds like Yoplait got the rights to the song without the actual band finding out, which isn't necessarily Yoplait's fault.
FWIW, NIN started hyping their big comeback tour in february, announced "hesitation marks" at the end of may, and it was released at the end of august, so a six- or three-month rollout, depending what you include. sure, arcade fire did a TON more stuff with their rollout (and i can accept that it didn't go over well with everyone), but trent's big issue seems to be with the timeframe of it.
No I didn't take it that way at all, I just think there are plenty of examples of pretty respectable "big names" with records not on this list (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nine Inch Nails, The Strokes, M.I.A., Jay-Z off the top of my head) that I don't think we can say name recognition is what bolstered those records to the top.
And what the heck:
1. Vampire Weekend - Ya Hey
2. Daft Punk - Get Lucky
3. Disclosure - When A Fire Starts To Burn
4. Kanye West - Blood On The Leaves
5. Vampire Weekend - Step
6. Darkside - Paper Trails
7. Arcade Fire - Here Comes The Night Time
8. Justin Timberlake - Suit & Tie
9. Wavves - Demon To Lean On
10. Beck - I Won't Be Long
Awesome band, definitely deserving of the many words above.
The photo Hamilton tweeted last night with the text "Thanks everyone! Hell of a run." destroyed me.
