I had the chance to see him a few years back and he did tell a large amount of stories. But they're stories from B.B. KING, so I gladly shut up and listened.
What bothers me about this list isn't necessarily that tracks like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or "Heart Shaped Box" were left off, but that the only real explanation we're given is "Nirvana recorded better ones."
I don't know how much you can argue with here, though "Love Will Tear Us Apart" being at number 5 strains credulity a little bit.
Was I the only one hoping for an epic showdown between Girl Talk/Freeway and Waka?
Fallon did it all the time on the show and he's done okay for himself
This doesn't have to be an all-time "classic Wu-banger" to be a great track. If you're going to automatically compare this to '36 Chambers' or 'Liquid Swords' or 'OB4CL' of course it's not going to measure up. But it's three of the best from the Wu going in over a nice clattering soul beat. The hook is an afterthought sure, but it doesn't drag on for long.
Anyone who has the fortune of catching them live would probably agree with that statement
Only the Pos' verse is repeated man.
I already her version of that song playing in my head.
"Orchestral churn" just doesn't seem to fit him as well as some of those cheezy 80s jazzy instrumentals like "Maybach Music II" do.
This is just so silly, I love it. I hope these two continue working together for the foreseeable future.
Disappointed 'Icky Thump' didn't get any love on this, but I don't know what song you'd kick off of here to make room for one of those tracks.
Picked up this and 'St. Vincent' today. Dug into 'Oxymoron' first and am not regretting that decision in the least.
Hopefully this is the 'Flockaveli' of pop music.
I know this isn't exactly the rager you'd expect from reading the pairing, but this still goes off.
Not sure the words "Matt Bonner" and "gluttonous" or "asshole" are seen together that often.
I don't really know if "Drunk in Love" in particular took steps forward for feminism. It's more the album as a whole if anything, and if you want to single out any of them: "Flawless", "Heaven" and "Blue" all come to mind before that one.
Really really. What don't you like about it?
Why has no one mentioned that Nicki flat-out raps in this thing?!?
Also cannot help but think of the Band when I think of this. Especially something with a little more of a groove to it like "Up on Cripple Creek". http://allfreshsounds.blogspot.com/2014/02/coming-home-blitzen-trapper.html
At this point, anyone who is a fan of Gucci should treat any new track as a gift.
I'm glad you pointed out the 'In My Mind: Mixtape'. His takes on "Liquid Swords" and "It Was A Good Day" are both phenomenal.
One point I would make, when Seeger stood before HUAC in 1955 he refused to plead the Fifth and argued instead that he would not answer any questions on the grounds that it would violate his First Amendment rights. Which I think in its own way speaks to how tireless of a campaigner he was for free speech. R.I.P. Pete, it's been good to know you.
Just echoing previous sentiments at this point, but this really does reek of a "cover your ass" move to curry some favor with hip-hop heads.
I hate to nitpick, but I think that Future part in "Nothing But Some Pain" is a sample from "Honest" because Future uses the line for the hook in that song. Regardless, it's a phenomenal tune.
I have to ask, are you arguing in the 1st graph that Lil B has disappeared or become lost?
Tom already covered this almost a year ago in the his write-up for "1017 Thug". http://www.stereogum.com/1273581/mixtape-of-the-week-young-thug-1017-thug/franchises/mixtape-of-the-week/
Drake and Bobby Moynihan high-fiving might be the best thing I've seen all year.
Swap #1 and #2 and your list would probably be in better shape.
Really looking forward to this release, "Sunday School II" is still one of better constructed mixtapes to drop last year.
Can't help but think of Dinosaur Jr. and Built to Spill when I hear this. Little flecks of Sadie's warble reminds me of Doug Martsch and that guitar squalor owes at least a little back-rent to Dino.
Here's hoping the Red Mamba joins the guys on-stage.
Anyone else surprised at how low "Your Funeral...My Trial" is?
If nothing else, this song only furthers proves how much better off Common is when he links up with No I.D.
"Sneak diss" is said throughout "I Don't Like" which dropped almost two years ago, it's not exactly a new phenomenon.
The live version with him and Morello from the "Magic Tour Highlights" is personally my favorite of the bunch.
Chris Klimek wrote a great article about this very topic: http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2013/11/27/247492164/why-are-bruce-springsteens-album-covers-so-ugly
