This is definitely, hands-down, without a doubt the most embarrassing album I ever purchased, listened to, and played for others.

Here here. I probably can’t say that camera phones are “ruining” live shows, but they’re definitely detracting from the experience. Last time I saw LCD, James specifically asked the crowd not to hold up phones because it distracts him and affects the performance. People fucking did it anyway. Not only can this affect the performer but it was really distracting to me and, I’m sure, other audience members as well. Especially when you know the artist is pissed about it. Put your phones away.

All the band members are excellent, but it really is Eddie Vedder's generosity of spirit that make Pearl Jam the band that they are. I saw them at one of the Home Shows in Seattle last summer and was almost in tears. What a beautiful person.

There is thankfully a lot less ageism in popular music these days. But again, it's not as if men in the music industry have been traditionally exempt from ageist stereotypes and jokes. "Dinosaur bands", "dirty old men", "The Strolling Bones", "Hi Paul McCartney! We read about you in history class"etc etc. I think age questions come with the aesthetic that artists choose to present when they're younger. A musician whose image is tied up with youth is more likely to have a difficult time ageing in the eyes of the public. Tom Waits would never have this issue. Unfortunately, female stardom is tied up with beauty to a much greater degree than male stardom. But there are aging male musicians that have been mocked for their age and their are aging female musicians who skirt it (Bjork, countless jazz vocalists). Anyway ...

I think this might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think WA has made a truly great movie since The Royal Tenenbaums (his obvious best). Bottle Rocket is a fantastic debut, but I think Rushmore and RT are pretty much perfect. Aftr that, his movies almost became charicatures of WA films and he leaned a little too hard into his own aesthetic. I dig Moonrise Kingdom and Grant Budapest. Life Aquatic is his low point.

I'm not a publicist or an expert on spin, but this fiasco has to be worse for Khaled's (already lame) image than losing the #1 album spot to Tyler.

This album was massive. In some ways, the soundtrack to my final year of high school. What a weird time that is in a person's life. I loved some very respectable music, but it was hard NOT to get caught up in the promise of SoCal culture. The girls I was chasing were lukewarm on OK Computer, Moon Safari, and The Downward Spiral. BUT, they were totally on board with 40oz to Freedom and Californication. There's no polite way to put it: this album was a great aid to the beginning of my sex life.

To be clear, I totally accept that contemporary culture makes aging more difficult for women than it does for men. But frequently the "would never happen to a man" claims are totally inaccurate.

1) I have been hearing and reading Rolling Stones age jokes and commentary since the early 90s. 2) This is a bad week for misuse of highly specific and loaded terms. First, PM Trudeau agrees that the disproportionate murder of indigenous women is "genocide" and now this.
