I, for one, still talk about Louis CK.

What’s the right take? That Coachella 2004 would have been better if the headliners had been Britney and O-Town instead of Radiohead and The Cure? If the undercard had been Linkin Park, Nickleback, and Crazy Town instead of Air, Pixies, and Flaming Lips?

While the highlights of festivals are always the best shows you see, arriving at the campsite the evening before the shows start is always a magic time.

I think the concern is that current Bernie polling doesn't reflect what will happen in the general. Remember how high Hillary's positives were when she was Secretary of State? Even at this stage of the Dem primaries in 2015, she was really, really popular. I could be wrong about Bernie's popularity, but I think he's really vulnerable and that his current positives don't reflect that vulnerability.

It's not too specific, but he's articulated medicare for all who want it with the goal of single payer in the long term, a different SCOTUS structure to save it from politicization, abolishing the death penalty. Not exactly lukewarm centrism.

I'm sure "promotional commitments in the United States" is code for "avoiding publicity for past predatory behaviour".

Who pissed in your cornflakes, kid? For the last time, I don't think anyone is saying policy doesn't matter. I, at least, just disagree with your premise that concerns about presentation, appeal, biography, and (yes) electability are simply vapid and unimportant.

1) Donald Trump is the most popular politician in the country at the moment. 2) if you don’t understand why Donald Trump is an existential threat to the country, im really not sure I should be engaging. 3) anyone with a basic understanding of politics should understand that, unfortunately, running on policy is not what wins presidential elections. That’s so self evident, I’m not going to elaborate. I wish Warren’s policies could be implemented tomorrow. But she’s not running for legislator in chief (like in a parliamentary system). Her decision to go deep on policy this early is fatally unwise. It alienates more people than it attracts generally, and will put her on the defensive from now to next June (if she makes it that long). Bernie suffers from the opposite problem, ironically. He’s long on ideology but short on policy specifics. He’s old, he’s in a wide open field where’s he’s no longer the “anti Clinton” hero, and he’s a self-identifies socialist. I wish Mitch Landrieu were running, but he’s not. Harris, Klobuchar, Biden, Pete, Beto, Booker ... I’d put money on any of them in the general before I’d put it on Sanders or Warren.

Again, Pete is specifically not in favour of triangulation or centrism. But it seems anything positive said about him offends the Sanders and Warren people here.

Also, I don’t think Pete can beat trump because of “centrism”. I think he can beat Trump because he is a more effective communicator than the other candidates.

Well, if you’ve been following what Buttigieg has been saying (check out this week’s interview with Ezra Klein), he actually advocates against the democrats chasing the center a la the Clinton years. As for electability, it surely can lead to misguidedness but it’s also a serious consideration and if you deny that you’re a fool. Finding a candidate who’s personality and message appeals to the widest tent is an important part of politics.

I'm pretty cynical, but Rhodes Scholarship and serving a tour in Afghanistan hardly constitute "kissing ass" in my book. As for climbing ladders, it's almost as if, you know, that's what people do when they're working towards success in politics (or any other realm). I don't happen to think Sanders or Warren can beat Trump, who I view as an existential threat to the country. Bernie in 2016, maybe. Sorry for speculating, but it reads as though you want US politics to be something it isn't. Frankly, the author of the screed to linked to seems to feel the same way.

Maybe someday we'll have a formerly homeless black transgender woman recovering from crack addiction and regurgitating Chomsky win the Democratic nomination. But for now, I'm pleased that there is an extremely talented, progressive, intelligent, gay, millennial red-stater connecting with people and showing promise.

I do think too many hip hop artists get a pass for their histories of violence (among other things). But gangbanging among people who have signed up for that life with their eyes open is different than victimizing someone at their most vulnerable.
