I never pictured him as circumcized.
Thank goodness these now come in spoon size.
Am I the only one who thought Skylar talking about Walt's "second job" on the cell phone was not so smart? Has Skylar never seen The Wire?!?
I heard this on the Moth podcast. If you don't get the Moth podcast, you should! They are all amazing and free and great for enjoying in traffic.
Why all the downvotes for speaking the truth about milk? RELAX milk lovers.
Great recap Kelly! I agree that Skylar was right, and that Walt is over his head. He has no idea how over his head he is, since he doesn't know Mike already saved his life when those cartel guys were going to bash his head in. But he should know from the box cutter incident that he is over his head, so yeah, he is so dumb. Also, poor Walter, Jr. He is going to be so hurt and crushed when he finds out he's been defending his dad all of this time and his dad was lying to him. :(
The Fondest, I don't know what an OTP is, but if you're saying that they eat A LOT of breakfast in this show, I concur. The Whites really love their breakfasts.
It seriously makes me crazy that anyone would say that the "whole concept" is "wrong." Why? Because it is just a fictional story and not a history lesson? So is every sincle piece of fiction ever told that happens to take place at any given time in history. I don't get it. Furthermore, I don't get why it is ok to crticize this author for not accurately portraying the historical context of the time period when other authors are not held to that same standard. Did Zora Neale Hurston get criticized for not portraying the time period accurately for Their Eyes Were Watching God (which also doesn't have ANY positive male figures). What about Alice Walker in Posessing the Secret of Joy. There, she tacles female genital mutilation. It is a great read, but it doesn't come close to describing the magnitude of the FGM problem. They get a pass, but this author doesn't because she is a white woman, and for some reason white women can't just write a creative piece of fiction? I don't get it.
Jonee, did you read the book? Because it is not a coming of age story about a white girl, regardless of what that letter says. And even if it was (which it isn't), Catcher in the Rye was a coming of age story about a white boy with fictional characters and and made up stuff that never happened and SO WHAT. I can't think of ANY coming of age stories about white women, so we should probably just be glad that there is one (if it was, which it isn't).
I doubt that the people who wrote that letter even read the book. If so, I have no idea how they came away with a feeling of nostalgia. That book reminded me how much it sucked to be a woman--of any color--back then and how awful things were for people of color not so very long ago. I also have a problem with the fact that the book (or movie) is being criticized for not telling the stories of black men. The vast majority of books and movies about any historical period focus on men, and no one has a problem with that. And the dialect? You have got to be kidding me. Mark Twain wrote in a Southern dialect and it added richness to his work. I don't think it is up to anyone else to tell the author how to make her characters speak, and how to bring that speech to life. As for anyone who worries that women will leave the theater with a warped notion of what racism was like in the 1960s, that is just INSULTING to all women. What, we're too stupid to not know the difference between fact and fiction? Also insulting are the comments such as "well maybe this will inspire women to go learn about civil rights." Who says we aren't already knowledgeable?
AGREED! It is called fiction, and it doesn't have to be historically accurate. Few books and movies can really portray all of the horrors of past injustices. I remember a friend of mine complaining that Shindler's List made the holocaust look less horrific than it was, in particular because of that one sceen where they herd people into the showers, and everyone expects gas to come out of the shower heads but it is water, and it is just a shower and everyone smiles and hugs each other. Does that make Shindler's List a bad movie? No.
Where is this quote from? I looked for it in the letter but didn't see it.
Kids that are older than Sesame Street age (mostly under 6). Before school starts, kids are beautiful, accepting creatures unless they have hateful parents. Kids learn how to hate. They don't start out that way.
I am all about marriage equality, but I don't get the point of this petition. When are people going to realize that we don't need to teach children tolerance, they are born tolerant. I get so annoyed when I see cartoons etc., with kids in wheelchairs and the whole "this child is just like you" nonsense. Anyone who has ever raised a child or spent time with a child knows that kids are more than excepting than adults (at least at the pre-school Sesame Street age). They love everyone! If you surveyed Sesame Street viewers and asked them "should two adults who love each other be able to get married even if they are two boys or two gilrs?" They would all answer "Yes! Yay! Can I come because dancing and cake!" It is the adults in this world that need to be educated about tolerance so they don't f up their children.
I pay slightly more than you per month and I have a house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a huge finished basement, a 2.5 car garage and a fenced in yard. The only downside is that I have to spend my life hearing about how much better New York is than Chicago.
I think Mike and Gus will eventually be taken care of by the Cartel, now that they aren't friends anymore. Walt will for sure have to kill Hank, that's whey they've been making him such an ahole this season, so we won't feel bad for him. I bet he gets smashed in the head with a huge mineral, or his final seconds are spent looking at a mineral, somehow minerals will be involved. I hope no one kills Jesse ever.
I thought Sky freaking out over the champaign made no sense. They just bought an $800k car wash, so what is a $300 bottle of wine? I know she went to great lengths to make them look poor and all, but if I were the phone company, I wouldn't be so upset about the $300, as much as I'd be livid over the $800,000 car wash. But, I don't work for the phone company and am not one of their judgy neighbors either.
Why all this hate for the Hunger Games? Those books were entertaining, even if there were written by a woman.
Sorry, but what about the scent in Terms of Endearment when the little boy is supposed to say goodbye to his dying mother, and he instead acts like an asshole, and she's all "I'm not mad at you, don't look back on this someday and think I was mad at you."
Kelly, it is nice to have a feminine perspective around here! Now I'll step aside and wait for the "I'd hit that vagina hand" and "that vagina hand is hot" comments.
Why two down votes for Julia? Maes no damn sense.
What?! Did you see his abs? Have you heard him speak about gay marriage? All that is hot.
Also, remember those Anthony Weiner photos? They were very nice to look at! Here was a guy with a beautiful body and a successful career. Of course, in his case, looking like a sexual object destroyed his career. There is such a double standard.
So life is just sexist and we should just deal with it. When men everywhere are saturated with the idea that women are only sexual objects, it becomes harder for them to vote for women, take women seriously, pay them a fair amount etc. If all things were equal I could live with the whole "well it is a magazine for gentlemen" argument, but things are far from equal. And "not really much we can do about it" is probably the most depressing statement on the subject I've read in a long time.
What exactly is an "arm-chair" feminist?
I don't see the criticism of this as "sex negative." You can be against sexism and also be sex positive. I also never said that beautiful people expressing a sex positive attitude is racism. Where do you get that? I'm merely pointing out that you - a guy- don't get to tell me - a disenfranchised woman- that I can't get offended by subtle sexism because it is in a magazine geared toward men.
So you're "uptight" if you point out that something is a little sexist. Good to know. We've really made some headway ladies!
So honhon, if the were a magazine called White People's Quarterly (and I really hope there isn't), and it had some subtle racism that would also be ok because the magazine is for white people?
These are all things my daughter has said to me: "You have stretch marks" "Why are the veins on your hand so big?" "You look like Mrs. Gultch (the Wicked Witch, Kansas version)" "The skin under your eyes is so dark" and my personal favorite.... "your lips smell like meat!" So, by my own experience kids are just jerky by nature.
sinnombre- great article. Thanks for sharing!
Sally has another good reason to masturbate.
Antisocialite, you said it way better than I did. Thanks!
DSN, performing unnecssary cosmetic surgery on a baby IS a very big deal, especially when that surgery is NOT reccomended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. As a parent who has had to make this decision for my own kid, I would never put anyone or anything above my own child's safety.
Sorry, it was a lame joke! I'm glad your friend is such a sharer, and I hope he/she finds an intact guy!
I love when people say they don't want their kid to look differnt. Do dads and sons compare their junk? Is that a thing? Because me and my mom never compared our junk. Yes, there is upkeep, but you have to clean your ears too and I don't see people cutting those off! Also, there are thousands of nerve endings in the foreskin, so think about what you're saying. Maybe there are guys out there who would rather have to spend less time in the shower in exchange for less pleausre, but that is kind of lazy and sad.
Cakeordeath, you should tell your "friend" to go to Europe or wait 20 years and she'll have many to choose from. Less than half of American boys these days are getting circumsied, since the American Acadamy of Pediatrics is now against it.
DirtySpaceNews, Nope. If people who have to clean elderly peni have a problem with smegma, they should go work somewhere else. Chopping off parts of baby peni is never the answer! Anyway, they're already changing adult diapers so what is the big deal.
That's what I do! My favorite is when someone tells me to smile I respond "my mom just died." My mom did die, but that was a long time ago, and I don't think she'd mind me bending the truth about her a little.
