This is just madness. And Dave Berman himself would tell you that.

Well, this is a big deal. But I do wonder if it will be a big deal to the kids. I suspect these venues may be a wee bit too big. It feels like Riot Grrrl history is fading a bit from the collective memory. Even current female music writers don't seem to bring the old subculture up very often. I would welcome a comeback of the genre. Could be a welcome contrast to the pop girls and sad girls that are dominating today.

Hard to imagine now but there was a moment in the 90's when Virgin Records gave this duo a cool million bucks to sign them. Seems like a lifetime ago. I hope they pull off this comeback.

This is a question for the NYT I guess but where exactly does the 823 figure come from? The Billboard article says he sold 1,000 (and 6,000 in its premiere week) - is 1,000 that a rounding up of 823? Does every online download store report to some kind of centralized Soundscan to get these tallies? The likes of Amazon Music and Apple Music are reporting their download sales figures? Hard to believe.

The production is a huge part of the quality of the records he worked on. But it works both ways - his aggressive artistic decisions - excessively layering, abrasive, lo-fi, overmodulated mix may have also put off some potential new fans. They have a raw quality which I personally love (and I'm guessing most here do) but I can see how more modest listeners might see it as harsh and amateurish. It seems they knew it at the time and that's why there are different mixes for Almost Crimes. And an alternate album cover for You forgot it in people, as the original just can come across like bad childhood art. YFIIP should be thought of alongside Funeral as a defining album of its time but it just isn't but it's not because of the songs themselves.

Nice. One of the first tracks with this break sample that came to mind. Featuring Rachel Slowdive on vocals no less. This debut LP of theirs is a shoegaze classic, even the B sides.

The hagiography for MPP on it's anniversary is getting to be a wee bit much. To the point we've convinced the band we really need to hear this sort of very embryonic demo. It's a fine experimental record but it's not like it's OK Computer or some real game changer.

Hot track. This is maybe the closest they have come to their classic late 90's/early 00's techno sound with that squelchy 303 noise in a long while.

And apparently Miike Snow dude was also a co-writer? Pop is just ridiculous these days with the all the cowriters and producers it takes to screw in a light bulb for a three minute song.

You are correct, he is not. We are in the era of the aspirational headliner. When your festival can't land anyone major or unique, you take someone Good Enough with a hyped up smaller following and hope to build them up. See also Tame Impala, not a true headliner either.

The hunger for a new Strokes LP is so strong that we've somehow convinced ourselves that the Voidz are enough while we wait. (I'm a fan and they are fine, but let's be real, they don't have a quarter of the Strokes' tunes or magic.)

Is there another example of a documentary focused on the evils of single figure like this where the subject is out there just walking around while it is airing? Like this kind of stuff typically follows a death or imprisonment of some bad guy. What the fuck is this?

Eh, it was a bit of a (dumb) joke. I distinctly remember RDJ (or someone he sent) performed in a masked costume, to a DAT tape of his tunes, in the early 00's. One of those shows was an All Tomorrow's Parties fest in Los Angeles.

Part of me loves that Jonny G was a fan with ordinary tastes like the rest of us, and part of me is disappointed that Jonny G is a fan with ordinary tastes. I kind of want to think of him as an alien who doesn't have time to trifle with our earthly nonsense while he's writing his music of the gods.

I've never been a particularly huge Gaga fan but always respected her craft. After seeing stuff like this and the other reports of from the opening of her new show, I think I'd willingly sit through it time I'm in Vegas. If someone wants to comp me the $250+ ticket hopefully, that is.

December 30, 2018 on Watch Lady Gaga Cover David Bowie At Vegas Residency Kickoff
Well, this whole thing that was only ridiculous now has turned depressing. It's upsetting that something like this gets uncovered not by choice, but as a means to defend oneself. It's worth remembering Hopper and the rest of that peanut gallery are not artists. They do not make anything, they sit back and poke and point and comment. They don't know shit about an artistic "vibe", a voice, what it does and doesn't take to create music.
