Yes, that would be nice. Maybe a difficult album to write about with any freshness. There is a pretty bad 33 1/3 book about it. But there is a films compilation about the album anniversary that is touring now which may be interesting: https://youtu.be/Sqh32Uj8_XE

Very good news indeed. I wonder if we'll get a preview of some of the new stuff during Tony Allen's set at Demon Dayz tomorrow.

Are we talking lyricist or just all around poet? I'm inclined to agree. Traditional American poetry hasn't been all that interesting of late, the little of it that I've read.

I wouldn't mind reading this. People do seem forget how much of a thing Placebo was for a minute there in the late 90's/early 00's. They had a particularly big following in LA around that time.

Funny, no outlets seem to want to run a photo of what this thing looks like. It can't be more offensive than a standard stock photo of MM such as above.

There's nothing lazy about this. In fact, it's actually extra work to pay attention and look for significance beyond the surface. Take a class or read a book or something.

See what aspects of the performance are emphasized and what adjectives are used. There's a definitely some tone here and in the post on the Cardi B Kimmel appearance that suggests "look at these cute little people."

Stereogum: "Here's another adorable person of color on late night TV! So cute! Is there anything these scrappy upstarts can't do?"

Psst-- it's safe for you to use LatinA here-- they're both women-- we won't report you to the woke language police. But does Cardi even personally identify as Latina beyond speaking Spanish. She's half Dominican, half Trinidadian and speaks French just as well.

He sucked, often, but something tells me the concept and/or lyric for this particular song was pretty much handed to them/him fleshed out for the whole global broadcast event. "Boys, we need something along these lines..."

Indeed. Leave it to me to morbidly have wondered how he got those iconic bloody eyeglass frames from being shot in the back.

Is it truly 7/4? Or 4/4 with a 3/4 section? Whatever the case, it is unusual and has a deceptively simple feel.

Come on, this is like saying that "Yesterday" is about scrambled eggs. LA might have been the original impulse but he moved to "the city by the Bay" and the tune is forever identified with SF.

This is the year Swervedriver get discovered and conquer America, I can feel it. Kidding. But is there anyone looking at this list and thinking, "wow, I need to get to SXSW!" SX has outlived it's usefulness. A money making thing its owners don't want to give up, and a shitshow for attendees for upwards of a decade now.

Exactly right - it was a commercial of sorts - an intended feel-good brief break in between all the war news that year.

October 17, 2018 on The Number Ones: The Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love”
This song has it's place but it really can be annoying when you aren't in the mood for it. The whole global TV broadcast of it was some one world nonsense propaganda. Surely meant to briefly distract from things like the Six Day War and Vietnam that year. The tune itself can easily be picked apart musically and lyrically, but complaining about no "fire" in a song called "All you need is love" kind of misses the point. In conclusion, "Baby you're a rich man" is superior.

I agree--he looks great now. Gives me hope how he is pulling off these mid 40s looks. I bet his GF has some input. I mean, look at his looks over the years: https://i.redd.it/9ntpmxkpjb001.jpg I'm feeling a Top 10 Thom looks piece - get on it Stereogum.

The slow unfolding and gradual embracing of this album really has been something to see. Pretty unique. I wonder if they envisioned the response would play out as such. They're here at the Hollywood bowl this week. I'll have to get to one of the shows.

Yes. There's seemingly a marketing trend out there that "ugly" sticks more to the brain, makes it more "sticky" than pleasing to the eye combinations.

Feels like a step backwards to bring in Dev at this point. Girl was doing just fine. I do wish she had more to say, she's got this unique position as a LatinA in this particular indie space. But that's cool. Happy to see her singing in Spanish more regardless.

I took a look at this thing. That box is nice, you can probably knock one off for well under $50 if you're handy. But looking at the photos, for some reason it really bugs me that Tweedy couldn't slow down his signature just a bit and put a little more love into signing these covers. It's just illegible scribbling. For shelling out $100+ per album, how about a little effort.
