I know... Hip/Hop isn't represented at all. Madvillain is missing too. This is a Pitchfork Pt. II list in my opinion
Did Pitchfork do this list???
The Very Best???
J Dilla owns all these. Best Hip/Hop producer since Primo. He passed away three years ago and he is the still is the man
Some people need to venture out and listen to some newer music. This is turning into a popularity contest, instead of voting for the best album. The Decemberists at 16 and Wilco at 18? The only people who voted for that are people who still are living off their material from 2004. Vote for your favorite album, not your favorite band.
I think The Very Best put one of the strongest albums out this year. I haven't seen them on many list.
At least Raekwon's newest is on the list. I think it is the best album of 2009, but I'll settle with the album being on some sort of list. I agree with the Fever Ray comments. That was a brilliant album. What they do by substituting percussion with left field synths is fantastic. I thought Yeah Yeah Yeahs album was underrated, but on this list it is overrated.
Yer not the only one. Merriweather Post Pavillon brought boredom to new levels. Animal Collective should be renamed Pitchfork's House Band
Someone needs to hear this... Kanye is pop culture top producer. J Dilla (Jay Dee) is the top hip/hop producer of this decade. Many in the Hip/Hop community would agree with that. His soul samples curated thousands of imitators. No one could match the original though. RIP Jay Dee RIP Baatin Slum Village Fantastic Vol. II, Jaylib Champion Sound, J Dilla Donuts, and Raekwon Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. II, oh yeah Madvillain Madvillainy
The Horrors album was a near masterpiece. I'm pretty sure the album is going to make my top 10... I think noripcord gave that album a 10.
Did anyone listen to Raekwon's newest album??? Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt. II.... I'm judging that a lot of you might not listen to much Hip/Hop or even care about Hip/Hop. Raekwon's newest dives into some of the best beats constructed byJ Dilla and Pete Rock in their careers. With the current climate around the urban areas in this country, the lyrics reflect what many in our poorest areas are experiencing right now. The album falls into the category of timely album. There are only two albums I recommend in 2009... Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.... Pt. II. All of you should check out Raekwon's newest.
I was happy to see the YYY's get some pub... I thought the album was very good, but No. 3? Give me a Break... I'm a big Doves fan, but that Kingdom of Rust album belongs no where near a top 50 album of 2009. Dirty Projectors, Bat for Lashes, Grizzly Bear, and Phoenix should be higher, and in this case...Way higher for Dirty Projectors. I agree this list is embarrassing... I think Pitchfork does the best out of the websites (along with Noripcord) I do have my disagreements with Pitchfork and hate how they rate some artist's albums high because they are performing at the Pitchfork festival. Still they do get a pretty good mix.
Chef Raekwon put out my favorite album this year. My indie dude was J Dilla... I know he passed away three years ago, but his beats are still rampant throughout the Hip/Hop world. Anyone vote for Major Lazer pon de floor for best video?
