Aaaand... if I would of just scrolled down... I would have seen that Scott beat me to my explanation to you RJ. haha whoops. Ah well, +1 to the awesome Saul meme anyway ;)
That's totally true... Paul met his wife at Coachella. He's a huge music-head like all of us, I've read dozens of articles about his love of Radiohead and attending as many music fests as he can. For that, I love the guy even more than I already did due to his stellar performance as Jesse Pinkman.
Aw... Failure <3 So happy that band reunited. And, strangely, they're also opening for Tool on their upcoming tour.
Not idea who Sebastian Ingrosso is... but Zedd and Krewella are EDM. I thought the whole EDM craze was kinda coming to a halt lately but I guess not. :-/
I live in Chicago... and while I understand your point and get it - I definitely don't consider Lolla some small, artsy fest, never have - as a Chicagoan, it's sometimes frustrating that Lolla nabs some of the artists you've been waiting to see for a year and then you're kinda forced to shell out the money to see a smaller form of a show you'd wanna see from an artist because they won't be back in your neck of the woods for quite a while after that. That's my only issue with it. Well, that, and like many people have said upthread... the crowd at Lolla can be a total turnoff. It's definitely not a lot of people going for the pure music aspect... it a lot people talking loudly over the artist about nothing relevant and making sure they instragram and tweet constantly instead of just enjoying the music itself.
Chicago-love fist-bumps to both you guys ;)
Nailed it... that's always what pisses me off about Lolla being in Chicago. I would rather just pay to see the artists I wanna see on their own than have to do the festival thing. I have to admit, I'm just not a huge Lolla fan period... over-priced everything, smaller set-lists, baking in the sun for 8 hours a day for 3 days straight - and worst of all - the majority of people that go care more about socializing with their friends and being on their phones than they do about about the music. Alas, I'm always suckered into wanting to attend because some of the artists I want to see don't revisit the city for at least another year.
Agreed! Well, and the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona... even though there's no way in hell I'd be able to travel there.
Haha touché... that gave me a good laugh. I remember having a convo with you a while back about Basement... I know you said you weren't really a fan, but we chatted about how they broke up right before this whole emo revival thing hit. Dunno if you've heard, but they ALREADY reunited! Guess they realized they dropped the ball on their early demise too quickly. I don't even care that they are possibly reunited for a quick cash-grab, they caught me hook, line, and sinker... bought tickets to see them in August.
I was so shocked seeing the news of this earlier this morning... I honestly thought for a moment it was a joke, due to the nature of GWAR's humor. I was lucky enough to experience GWAR live twice, both times being something I'll never forget. I was never a huge fan of the band itself - but I respected them for being able to pull off one the craziest and down-right entertaining live shows I've ever witnessed. Seeing hoards of kids trudging around for the rest of Riot Fest covered from head to toe in fake blood is something I'll forever miss for future Riot Fests to come. Plus, you can't think of GWAR and not think of that iconic scene from Empire Records. Kudos for including the video for that, Tom.
Whoa... seriously? Ok, I'll try that out then, thanks for the tips!! I think it depends on the record store's policies around me though. Some - like one of my favorites Reckless Records - say specifically on their website NOT to ask them about RSD releases. Maybe I misunderstood it though and they just mean don't ask them to hold anything for you... rather than just asking them simply if they'll be stocking certain releases in the store. If anything, and that plan fails, I know I can always count on Record Breakers, as I've been going there since I was teenager... they'll probably help me out for sure. Thanks again guys :) Good luck to you both in your respective RSD missions!
Guys... I'm already having anxiety thinking about this day. Only 500 presses of that Faux Real comp? Ugh. But more importantly, only 1000 of the new Veruca Salt 7"? If I don't get my hands on that I will have an utter meltdown in my local record store. I'll be waking up at 5 a.m. to stand in the Chicago-area record store lines this year, no doubt about it. Other must-haves for me: The Sunny Day / Circa Survive Split, Oneohtrix Point Never's Commision, The Field's From Here We Go Sublime, and Disclosure's Apollo. Possibly Sky's Night Time, My Time picture disc... if my wallet isn't already completely murdered at that point.
Hold the phone... there's gonna be a cover of a MYSTIK SPIRAL song on this thing!? Adding this to my RSD list immediately!
Furthermore, I was looking forward to Stereogum posting an article on this solely for the humor that the comment section would bring. You haven't let me down 'Gummers! Funny stuff.
I immediately texted my friend who's down there after reading this. He works for a rap/hip-hop based blog and my heart sank to my stomach when I read the news that this happened outside of a Tyler show, as I knew he could of very well been there. Luckily, he's ok, thank god. This is such horrific news. I hope proper justice is served to this guy, as what he did is downright disgusting... drunk or not. Hope all those who are injured a very speedy recovery.
Completely agree with all of this. I recently revisited Celebration Rock a couple weeks ago and was thinking along the same lines. They would have the emo revival tag written all over them if they released it this year.
Really digging this... regardless of what genre label is used at the moment to describe them.
Totally agreed with this AOTW pick, well-deserved... ...but am I the only one super enjoying Trust's Joyland? I feel like it's kind of getting overlooked this week, which is a shame. It's so dark and synth-y, absolutely love it... and it definitely has been the perfect pairing to my cold, cloudy, snow-ridden commutes to work.
I've always considered AIC grunge as well. More on the metal side of grunge, but still grunge nonetheless. I'm a huge AIC fan... or well, WAS a huge fan before the whole rebirth of the band with the new singer. They were pretty much the stepping stone for the younger me to dig deeper into the "grunge era" and discover most of the bands mentioned above.
I'm not a fan of CS, but anything that has to do with Sunny Day makes me erupt with excitement. I MUST get to my local record stores as early as possible on RSD to snag this.
Just a few off the top of my head that weren't mentioned... Mother Love Bone, Green River, TAD, Seaweed... basically a lot of old school bands that were on Sub Pop.
I have to imagine, in another space and time, Kurt would be laughing his ass off at this himself. And that STATUE!! I just... I just can't with that thing.
Up-vote purely for the AHS reference!
^ Nailed it! ;)
I was totally just coming here to post the same thing!! As a fellow video game "nerd" I flippin' LOVE that he mentioned Dark Souls 2. Here I didn't think I could love Burial any more... alas, the man always finds a way to pleasantly surprise me.
Yep, summed it up perfectly. And god help me, I'll probably continue to watch this trainwreck.
This is honestly the best line-up of any festival I've seen so far... ...and there's no way in hell I'll be able to make it to Spain in May. *siiiigh*
Agreed. Actually, I'm quite fond of almost all of the "Alternative" nominee's... too bad that category won't be televised. *sigh*
Aw, that hug at the end was so awesome. So happy he decided to choose this track for his late-night debut, it remains one of my favorite songs of 2013.
What a damn awesome new release day that will be! I'll actually be excited to go to work to start buying/downloading/streaming/whatever.
Absolutely LOVE that Childbirth track! I downloaded the whole It's A Girl! album through bandcamp after you guys posted about it earlier in the week, worth every penny.
Agreed about the new Trust song, cannot wait for that album to drop so I can stop going to Soundcloud every day to listen to it.
Wow... Lucy Hale on Stereogum... wasn't expecting to read that today. And that doesn't mean I'm upset by it either, I'm not a huge country fan - but I'm one of those adults who actually watches Pretty Little Liars. And like Crania said up-thread, it's nice to stay on top of some country jams at least for your hometown bar's sake. I support this feature. Yes, we could all get our pop news somewhere else, but it's nice to have a place to discuss it in our community if we so desire.
I dunno if it's just my mood this morning or what but I'm super digging this right now! Thanks for the recommendation... definitely gonna do some research on these guys today.
So happy I pre-ordered Real Hair... I have a feeling it's going to be one of those EP's you truly wish was an entire album's worth.
Ugh... what a "meanie", as she even calls herself.
Pussy Riot #BreakFree, courtesy of Virgin Mobile. Seriously though, FINALLY some good news on this story. So happy this has come to an end for them.
LOVED "Evil Eye"! I'm saddened my Run The Jewels pick - or any RTJ video period - wasn't included.
Completely agree. And the fact that he's not even the least bit remorseful - claiming it's all "megalolz" - is just beyond sickening.
