it's halfway between an AIM chatroom and a 2000s era forum. definitely my favorite social media platform these days!

i love the long running Scott Aukerman/Adam Scott U2/R.E.M./Talking Heads podcast, but it's more of a comedy show because they sometimes do not actually have much interesting to say about the music itself.

you're right, all those stereogum commenters who can't appreciate the KLF do have basic musical taste.

would be more interested in a discord server or something along those lines than a facebook group, personally.

i thought World of Tomorrow 3 was incredible, personally. there's a lot going on but it's all internally consistent and the ending was such a delightful twist.

lots and lots of good music out today but please do not sleep on the Ty Dolla $ign record, that man really did something on this one.

i would honestly just start from the beginning, it starts strong and really doesn't let up at all. you'll know by Track 6 if you like it or not and that's only like 10 minutes.

i haven't had a chance to really dive into this the way it deserves, but my major first takeaway: i never expected seeing that tracklist that this thing was gonna run under an hour, and it really benefits from that. so many of these 25 track hip hop albums feel like a slog, this feels like a rapid fire tour through everything ty dolla is capable of. craig jenkins did a great profile of him for vulture that i recommend checking out. it does put into question whether or not we'll ever hear that funk album we've been talking about on here for months now, seems like some of that material did make it on here (Track 6 being the most obvious holdover) and he's torn between putting the rest out or just moving on to new stuff. hopefully we do see it because the more funk-oriented stuff on here is fucking crazy.

the enduring popularity of shit like this and blink 182 just makes me feel like i'm still being bullied 20 years later lmao

i wouldn't go that far because clearly he's found a lot of success with what he does on his albums, and there are a handful of james blake ballads i do find truly brilliant, i just think when he's working in this lane he's a way more unique and groundbreaking artist than when he's writing RnB.

fun fact: they didn't actually write any lines for her on that show, they just let her show up on set and talk.

been saying for a while now that we need a revival of circa-2010 UK dubstep/garage/whatever you want to call it, and I Keep Calling is the closest thing i've heard to that sound in years, love it. that sample loop with the bass behind it instantly makes me feel like i'm 19 and listening to james blake EPs and jamie xx remixes again.

don't think it's unreasonable to hope that this band was teasing something music related instead of a comedy video

i think he said in an interview around their last record that he doesn't really enjoy working on music outside of Deerhunter anymore so i think you might be waiting a while still.

eyyyy glad to hear you enjoyed it! i've had it for months now because i pre-ordered the vinyl and have been wanting to share it, it's a weird album but there are some real gems on there! has me hoping we get an honest-to-goodness ben babbitt solo album at some point in the future, i think that would be amazing.

feel like it's too much build up for a zoom performance. i'm thinking the pandemic was a good excuse to get ben and jimmy mailing tapes back and forth again (or e-mailing files, more likely). jenny lewis tweeted it out too, if it is another album i would love to see her on board as an equal contributor.

the hat plus that whole quote about the producers' "conditions" just add to my theory that big thief is an elaborate parody of an indie rock band designed to trick me specifically, and everyone else is just in on the bit.
