he made a perfectly reasonable and accurate comment? pablo and DS2 are basically the twin blueprints for the streaming-era major label rap album. -overly long tracklist to pump the steaming numbers (see: every drake project post-pablo and basically every soundcloud rap album) -ends with bonus tracks that are often not labeled as bonus tracks, adding to the record's bloat (future did this first with DS2 but he's also still doing it as of high on life) -star studded cast but unlisted features, so anyone could pop up at any moment (astroworld) -very little to no sense of sonic cohesion whatsoever. i don't necessarily agree with the "event" thing since kanye's been doing that since at least graduation but i do think the overall point is sound

exquire put out a pretty good album like two weeks ago

yeah ty tagged him on twitter, i just don’t think he contributes vocally. there was a comment on here a few months ago from someone in the know who said ty’s upcoming album had a bunch of music with serpentwithfeet and thundercat on it. i think they said something fun like it was gonna sound like if d’angelo had been raised on g-funk and stone’s throw instead of prince.

yeah i think 30 hours is a top 10 kanye song tbh, though i do wish that he had used the soundcloud release on the album, which didn't have his ad-libs and also has some additional singing (not sure by who) that got taken off the final version.

i would never call TLOP perfect but i also wouldn't change a thing about it, it's exactly the sort of overly ambitious mess that i love. it's really cemented itself as my third favorite kanye behind Yeezus and Fantasy.

closed on sunday is definitely a pretty song but not pretty enough to make up for the lyrics IMO.

yeah you could watch it on mute and it would still be one of the most arresting pieces of video art i've seen in a while. the whole thing is really evocative and disturbing, even if you ignore all the purposeful glitches, the ultra-HD space footage and HQ CGI renders contrasted with the grainy cellphone/archival footage really does something here. two moments have stuck with me all day: the ocean waves made of chains, and the drifting, which is presented as an ecstatic release until one of the cars plows into the crowd. really striking stuff and captures this current moment in time way better than i expected any kanye related project to pull off in 2020.

talk to me makes my list because it may have my single favorite series of killer mike bars: "I move in a world of conspiracies / Obey no rules, I'm doing me Smoke kush, transport to the airport / Customs found a joint in my passport Pulled cash and I gave him what he asked for / Goddammit, it's a motherfucking miracle Small bribe, made it back into America / Hit Uber and maneuvered out the area"

after thinking for a while my top ten would be something like 1. Thursday in the Danger Room 2. A Report To The Shareholders / Kill Your Masters 3. Angel Duster 4. Call Ticketron 5. Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck) 6. Oh My Darling Don't Cry 7. 2100 8. Talk To Me 9. 36" Chain 10. Walking in the Snow some of the bangers could swap in and out depending on the day, but that's generally my list.

yeah i can respect that. i think ye fails in ways that are at least interesting, whereas JIK is both bad and totally fucking boring, which puts it lower for me.

definitely would have replaced firing squad with A Report To The Shareholders or Angel Duster, both of which are superior closers imo.

i think Wyoming was 3 great albums and 2 bad ones. i had stockholm syndrome with Ye for a long time but i've really come around to thinking that it's trash, it has like, elements of an album i want to like but it's so sloppy and shoddy and IMO it has his worst ever lyrics (including JIK) - especially Violent Crimes which is so ugly lyrically it mars the entire project for me. i also think Nasir actually has better production, and there's not a single song on Ye as good as Bonjour.

sonically this is WAY more interesting than anything on jesus is king, and it actually seems to have a message to it that i can get behind? i had no expectations for this but i am intrigued, gotta see how it holds up to repeat listens. beyond the song the video is sort of incredible.

hopefully this will satisfy all the people who whined about him releasing an ambient album earlier this year. i can't wait to hear this, i hope it's a return to or evolution of the age of adz aesthetic.

excited to throw this site some cash, this album looks amazing! any chance we can get some XXXL shirts for the big boys? would be happy to pay a bit extra if it cost more to print. even just one or two of the designs in a larger size would be cool if you can't offer all five (my vote goes to sonic youth and death metal).

also like, regardless of legality: if someone wants to go by "she" or "they" and you make a big deal about it, you're just an asshole. it doesn't hurt you to respect their wishes just because you don't believe their "ideology", it's just a matter of respect. all this reading you've supposedly done and love you supposedly have doesn't actually matter if you don't respect trans people.

your third paragraph describes transphobic ideology. you can say that you respect them but you're not actually respecting what they're saying or what they believe. so you're not actually an ally.

i live in massachusetts, there are plenty of sushi-eating heineken-drinking subaru-driving trump voters here. i suspect there are more of those people in brooklyn than you might expect as well - after all, to own a car in brooklyn alone means you probably make more than the average citizen and thus have more of an incentive to vote republican for financial reasons. one of the first links about the big sort on google is this interesting piece from the hoover institute challenging the book's research. i have not done enough reading about the topic to say definitively that the concept is flawed, but i found this article compelling. https://www.hoover.org/research/myth-big-sort

someone called you out on your use of incorrect pronouns in a post about arca, and instead of saying "you're right, my bad" you said a bunch of transphobic shit. perhaps you did not intend to be transphobic - which is why i am giving you the benefit of the doubt and not outright calling you a transphobe - but what you said WAS transphobic. i recommend you attempt to get over your own ego and consider that you may have in fact done that and that some random guy on the internet isn't just saying that for literally no reason. many of us have internalized problematic beliefs about marginalized communities, i encourage you to challenge your privileges and biases to better yourself.

this isn't remotely true, IE you believe yourself to be a lefty but still say transphobic shit on the internet.
