I'm disappointed you didn't include worst comment of the year. I'm pretty sure I would've had that one locked up.
Word around the holy-water-cooler is when god asked Hitch why he was such a staunch antitheist he replied "There was simply not enough evidence, god, not enough evidence"; god, being a big Bertrand Russell fan, appreciated the quote and decided to let him into Heaven. (just kidding, there is no god) ((and in all seriousness, his passing makes me super sad, so much so that I really didn't want to preface this with that stupid joke; I've been watching his debates on youtube all morning, Hitchens was a brilliant writer & orator and he will truly be missed.))
I'm pretty sure they mentioned that Robert California, while the CEO of the whole company, uses the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch as his office because he still lives in the area and its the closest location for him to do his work without moving? Pretty sure they said something to that effect in the second or third episode...
Great night overall, probably my favorite episode of Sunny of the season, most likely because I have been in the exact same situation as the gang- I broke into a house with my friend ONLY to retrieve something that was stolen from said friend by that the person who's house we broke into... needless to say, twenty minutes after they had left and we got in, they returned and we were stuck hiding in the basement for three hours before we could make a run for it. It was a terrifying ordeal at the time, but hilarious when I think back to it and even more hilarious when the guys from Sunny do it.
i thought this was a decent movie, based solely on Greta Gerwig. She looks a looooooooottttt like my ex-gf/love of my life, so naturally I'm madly in love with her. Oh yeah, and, like Gabe said, she actually is a very good actress.
It is a catchphrase, often- and HILARIOUSLY- spoken by the ancient, decrepit, nonagenarian LAPD sergeant character Roger Murtaugh throughout the four films in Richard Donner's Lethal Weapon ser- OH WAIT, i get it! LOL.
I mean, I know that Battleship looks very terrible, but is there any doubt which of these two trailers is worse? I mean.... http://i2.blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/images/uploads/thompson-on-hollywood/fnl_1001_052.jpg RIGGINSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Personally, I think that it's a great idea. I've been reading Stereogum for a loooooong time, and I'm sure that there are plenty others out there like me, and, perhaps due to my loyalty to the site, I just feel a little disappointed and let down when I see posts or articles or whatever that appear completely ignored (in the comments at least)*, and I think that something like this would help quite a bit to increase the user interaction with the site. As for the complaints about people pandering for upvotes and end of the week placement, I don't think that that is something that the Stereogum community will really have to worry about. Sure, there's bound to be a few people to whom it is important and that will think it's a big deal, but I think that more than anything this feature will encourage people to join in the conversation and hopefully add more insightful comments than the typical "this song is lame" or "i can't wait for the album!!!" sort of thing. People (myself included, to some extent) at Videogum find problems with the Monster's Ball because over there it can become very competitive, but the thing is, over there, because Videogum is in essence a comedy site, upvotes are 90% based on the laffz the post elicited. Here, because the topic of conversation is music (though I will say many of the posts can be quite humorous), I highly doubt anyone (well, most of us, anyways) are going to be racking our brains for the funniest thing we can say. Someone who wants to pander for upvotes here will have a better chance at scoring them thru intelligent, thoughtful comments on the music being discussed. At least, that's the way I see it playing out in my head. *Of course, what do i know? A lack of comments probably doesn't necessarily mean no one is looking at the post, I'm sure plenty of the less commented on articles get decent views; it's just that posts that DO get a lot of comments definitely DO get a lot of views (all relative of course) and I'd hate for the subjects of the less commented on articles to not get as much attention in the future just because no one is responding to them (the main artist that comes to mind, for me at least, is The-Dream; I'm always psyched when you guys cover him and I'd hate for what seems like a lack of interest in the community to have a negative effect on future coverage (though, I'm pretty sure that Amrit and Scott are fellow Dreamheads (right, guys?), so hopefully you'll keep giving him some coverage). Anyways that's just my two cents. I think it's a great idea, guys, and I only want to see the best for Stereogum, because I think it's the best site of it's kind online.
UGH, the epilogue was terrrrrrriibbbbllleeeee; I personally went into the movie thinking that they would have different actors- you know, GROWN ADULTS- playing the older versions, which in my mind would have been just fine. But wow, none of them looked like they were pushing 40- they mainly just looked like they were pushing 14.... year-old, blind, first-time makeup artists out of their way as they were rushing in front of the camera after the director yelled action. That's probably exactly what happened.
Did anyone else spend the entire movie NOT crying...? Cuz, I mean... I- I... definitely didn't cry through the entire movie...
I actually think it makes a lot of sense that theres not any RHCP on there, mainly because they suck.
Toy Story 3: New toys think they're SO BIG
Harry Potter films: A group of ne'erdowell witches & wizards dedicate their lives to making sure one of the greatest wizards of ALL TIME doesn't achieve his lifelong dream.
The Exorcist: Some crazy religious nut chants nonsense and throws water at a little demon who's just trying to get out of Hell and experience the world.
i don't understand people's dislike of pitchfork. sure some of the writer's are overly fascinated with their ability to write music reviews, but for the most part the reviews & news are on point, and they have a lot of great features (like this interview, which i read this morning, guest lists, end of the year coverage, etc.) plus their festival is the best.
The reviewer at AV Club suggested it, and i think that we should start an internet campaign to have Sean Bean come back and play Stannis in season 2.
Luther season two starts tonight? At England 9 o'clock, which is in like two hours? Wow, yesterday was a great day to finish season one. ENGLAND, PUT IT IN MY BELLY! (belly = internet, it = luther s02e01)
I'm a total Dreamhead, so, as always, the coverage is truly appreciated. both tracks are killer, FMBO reminds me a lot of Fast Car, which is a REALLY good thing, and the beat on Body Work brings to mind LVM pts 1&2, as well as Abyss, among others... Terius has obviously got (and has had, for a long time now, clearly) his sound down pat, and he's amazingly managed to keep from getting stale. Psyched for The Love IV. BTW, did these actually drop on 6-7-twenty-11? Because even though we didn't get that Love Affair, this is still a pretty solid hold over til September.
BRIARWOOD MALLLLLL!!! THAT'S MY MALL WHERE I LIVEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I truly think Videogum is the best, funniest site on the internet. I love it here, the community is great and i think the coverage of videos is tops... that being said, i've always wondered when the gum coverage is going to begin...? I hate that i have to constantly check Wrigley's, Bubblicious & Bazooka Joe's (VASTLY inferior) blogs separately. That'd be my only gripe. Needs more gum coverage. (FUNNY COMMENT! Most likely gonna be the first/only ever double-editor's choice & #1 comment) Also, I am really looking forward to Videogum TV Club, I think that'll be a great addition. I am so good at watching TV.
None of these public proposals have anything on a buddy of mine's proposal: So, my good friend Ben, who is usually a very confident, charismatic (non-douchey) alpha-type male took his now-wife out to dinner. After they ate and were sitting there letting their food settle, he had planned a nice little romantic preface to the question. But he only got as far as "Laura..." before he started to tear up, after which he managed to sputter out "I love you... I... love you. I love you..." reaching his knee by the end of it. He pulled out the ring and literally couldn't say a word, just grin and hold back tears. She started crying too, said yes, and the whole restaurant clapped. I don't know, that, even to a grumpy cynic like myself, is just genuinely heartwarming and a million times better than one of these stunt proposals.
Every time there's a new episode of Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, I always end up watching every episode of Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis.
I thought Friends with Benefits was part 2 of the Those 70's Sex Friends quadrilogy? Pretty sure Kurtwood Smith and Fez are starring in parts 3 & 4 lined up for Winter '11 & Spring '12 (respectively, of course).
Chet Haze's dad is the best, and i've honestly watched (on purpose, and enjoyed) so many of his movies in the past 2 months i'm on the brink of a complete Hankserdose. But, man, yikes, that trailer... just, OOF. I actually said "OOOF" out loud when i saw it. All i'm saying is when i inevitably watch it online out of boredom, my expectations are gonna be VERRRY low.
All jokes aside, Larry Crowne looks just awful. Ugh. Yuck yuck yuck. BUT, Super 8, on the other hand has Coach Taylor in it, which by default makes it the best. Can't wait for Super 8. (that's actually a bit of an exaggeration, i definitely CAN wait for it and - LIT'RALLY - never think about it, but, Coach Taylor = will see, definitely) also HP8 = HOORAY!
beat me to it; i found it INCREDIBLY odd they weren't firing hundreds of bullets into the air. This is decidedly NOT a party.
(spoilers?) Coach definitely molded me into a better man. If it weren't for him i don't think i would have been a strong enough man to do the noble thing and take the fall for my brother's DUMBASS chop shop after he had become a father. Then Coach was decent enough to come stand up for me at my parole hearing... Thanks Coach, I love you.
that totally explains these weird, unexpected boners every time i see a spider...
He's hot, good looking, easy on the eyes. Oh yeah, and also, he's gorgeous.
Soft Gabe's recaps were definitely the best (only?) reason to watch Glee. He will be missed.
you think it's weird that the first thing i thought was "wow, i would be stealing SOO much stuff from Target if i were there when this happened"?
Am I the only one who thinks that picture 27 looks an awful lot like Samantha Bee and Rich Sommer?
two thumbs up http://cdn.buzznet.com/media-cdn/jj1/headlines/2008/08/chris-brown-doublemint-commercial.jpg
I feel bad for/actually like Chris Brown. I think his anger problems are the result of a rough childhood or something(?) and he's just no good at handling them, like a lot of people. Plus, he makes some really good songs. No bullshit.
Personally this is my favorite Liars album (only narrowly beating out DND), and I loved it from the first listen. I remember people walking into my place when i was playing Broken Witch one day and just making confused shitfaces upon hearing "BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD". I've always imagined that thats how a lot of the people who reviewed the album reacted (unfortunately).

The Glorious B.E.S.T. (seriously, i just love this one)
i'm sure heaven was only running low on t-bone steaks, cheese, eggs and welch's grape
