eXistenZ. please! I'm definitely no werttrew but if anything could be my Amelia this is it
as someone who is in the middle of her annual West Wing rewatch, I definitely appreciated the theme song accompanying the crazy midterm election vids. amazing as always, Gabe, champion of my heart
I have to admit, though I don't necessarily disagree with Kanye being #1, and I certainly loved the record myself, I guess I don't really get how it seems to top lists across the board? I mean it's a good and solid album, but it didn't really capture me in the way that I'd consider it hands down the BEST of 2010 (plus there were G.O.O.D. Friday tracks I actually liked a lot more). That said, if we're making a list of top 2010 twitter accounts, Kanye takes ALL the awards, and then some.
oh I didn't mean to imply Drake shouldn't win, though personally I am completely uninterested in him, god knows anyone would be preferable to Bieber. I'm not even gonna go into whether Mumford deserve Best New Artist or not (obviously you think not!), I'll just be glad to benefit off their increased profile regardless it's very true that Mumford & Sons have a similar sound to the Avett Bros (love them too), but by that same argument you could say all of the nominees are just a wannabe someone else. I make no claims as to Mumford's originality, but they are very good at their derivative thing then, cause I can't think of an album I've listened to more this year #personaltasteetcetc
as much as I usually couldn't care less about the grammys, I have to say, despite the fact that they will almost certainly lose out to Drake or some shit for Best New Artist, I'm really pleased that Mumford & Sons are even nominated, cause the publicity they'll get from that will hopefully enable them to play my hometown next tour #selfishness
I remember enjoying this movie a lot, but the more and more I think about it, that enjoyment perhaps had less to do with the plot (which admittedly I barely remember any of), but rather the fantastic soundtrack (M83! Maximo Park! The Jam! sogood.gif)
once again I feel compelled to nominate eXistenZ for the WMOAT, not just because I personally consider it terrible, but I have to feel that even if I genuinely appreciated this film I would love to see Gabe review it regardless (because man is it CRAZY)
I have to admit normally I am a bit underwhelmed by Girl Talk albums compared to how consistently fabulous his live show is, but Dominique Young Unique + Madness? http://i56.tinypic.com/14kcl15.gif
actually it's Canada's Project Runway that's hosted by Iman! (and I would know, cause I also constantly hoped for a Bowie cameo! especially since it was filmed in my home town) Canada's Next Top Model on the other hand, though now hosted by Jay Manuel, USED to be hosted by a cylon http://static.tvguide.com/MediaBin/Galleries/Imported/Editorial/A-B/Battlestar_Galactica_Cylons/Battlestar-Cylons-TriciaHelfer12.JPG

it's the slow turn back at the end that makes it truly terrifying http://i52.tinypic.com/erxzkm.gif
I somehow came across the tracklisting for their album yesterday, and the tracks names alone were enough to make me shudder, with gems like: Dis iz a Rager Dude, Honey Hungry Hoe, Where We @? (Skit), Ugly Bitch With A Mustache (Skit), Goose Gogglez, and U Ain’t Crunk. ALL THE GRAMMYS PLEASE.

last year I couldn't think of a good enough costume in time so I didn't dress up at all and just told everyone I was a muggle from Harry Potter. This year I either have to come up with a better story to hide the fact that I'm an awful procrastinator/terribly uncreative when it comes to Halloween, or miraculously think of something brilliant in the next 3 days. open to suggestions for either!
I hope the downvotes are for eXistenZ because I can't imagine anyone having actually sat through all of Silk
eXistenZ ("capital X, capital Z!") Silk (with Keira Knightley and Michael Pitt. TORTUROUS.)
agreed on Hundred In The Hands, 'Tom Tom' is easily one of my favourite tunes of the summer
still my favourite thing ever
still don't get the Best Coast hype, but yay, Dominant Legs & Gold Panda & Tanlines & Cults! although generally, my top 2010 bands list veers more in the Stornoway, Admiral Fallow, and Goldheart Assembly direction also, can I just say, fabulous job on the formatting? A++++
basically this is just fabulous. so much love.
ahh, this is so great! it's kind of everything I loved in Passion Pit last summer.
Vulture has it: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/07/the_social_network_teaser_two.html
Sigh No More only saw North American release in February. and yeah, it's just you, cause it is, in fact, amazing.
surprisingly (or not so surprisingly?) almost all my favourites of the year so far are here, despite being a little (or a lot) out of order. only, I feel like the only one who simply loved Ben Sollee's & Daniel Martin Moore's Dear Companion? easily one of my top five for sure.
it was jears, but as in Jack levels of crying: my tear ducts infinitely enjoy Lost references. (I didn't even realise it could be taken any other way! No guys, I loved this movie! Sorry, ugh, this is why I should never comment.)
as a baby monster who was three when the first Toy Story came out, seven for Toy Story 2, and now similarly moving away to university come September, I've kind of literally grown up with this franchise too. And I can tell you, there may have been enough collective jears between me and my best friend to fill the theatre.
Tempted to download solely for that amazing Mark Weaver album art. So good!
“Use this, 50 Cent,” he told himself. “Use this human emotions.” oh maaaan, Gabe, this is just The Best. Only an army of James Francos eating pies can express how So Good this is.
Aw, Gabe, can I just say that this write up totally brought me out of my post-finale jearing fest (and let me tell you, I was out-jearing Jack at the End there)? So good! Kind of like the episode! Because yeah a lot of shit was left unanswered (WAAAAAALT), but all in all it was kind of perfect. And Vincent! I was crying so much I was mistaking him for my own dog because I was FEELING IT all over the place, and maybe I'm super lame, but that final scene in the jungle was so perfect I was falling over crying, kind of literally (relax, technoJack!). Basically this whole comment has made about as much sense as the rest of the show. I was FEELING FEELINGS. Lost!
I wouldn't necessarily recommend it unless you have nothing else to do, though if you're like me and always have time for a romantic comedy, then go for it lol. It tends to confuse boring for understatement enough to feel like it runs too long, but its premise is sweet and the main actor charming, and its humour way more innocent than NBC's version if I'm remembering well (though granted, I may not be!). Anyway, I thought it was worth the $4 rental at the time.
ugh, Outsourced seems to be based on this movie from 2006, which when I watched it last year I thought was actually kind of charming (even if not anywhere near Parks & Rec caliber). Seems I can't even say that about your show though, NBC.
“None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is," completely sums up my feelings on Lady Gaga. I admit I probably would enjoy all the outrageous fashion and image more if her own artistic output actually reflected any of what she's supposed to represent, but her music is just so overwhelmingly bland to me.
haha, we watched Le dîner de cons in my French class just two weeks ago, and kept all discussing how and if an American version would at all work, ultimately deciding that no, it wouldn't. Guess Hollywood showed us! But I can safely say without sarcasm that I will definitely be seeing this and probably laugh a lot (David Walliams! Zach Galifianakis!). Though that said, Gabe, the original is hilarious.
though I won't be able to enjoy this Pizza Birthday Party in person (though always in spirit, am I right Topher?), I will be forever lots of loving all over that poster. so good!
I think the title is more F. Scott Fitzgerald's fault than the movie's, Gabe, and even then I think he just liked the alliteration of it. but yes yes yes to everything else. this movie was so long!
Iron Man 2 (obvs) The Sorcerer's Apprentice (obvs)
was that Michael Sheen as some weird technoDavidBowie? you know, I may have originally only been excited for this for the Daft Punk, but I have to say that was weird and great. Also, Jeff Bridges still has the best voice of all the voices.
I have a real Sophie's Choice (it's no where near a real Sophie's Choice) of either watching the Oscars with the V-gum Pizza Party or going to a live screened broadcast at my local theatre, which was totally awesome last year and was like a live Pizza Party in the sense that there was lots of booze and shenanigans. But what ever will I do without the appropriate .gifs to help me reconcile my frustration when the James Cameron inevitably wins something he doesn't deserve? BEST PICTURE - Avatar (because I don't trust the Academy at all to make a good choice here) ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE - Colin Firth, A Single Man (because I'm optimistic and he's great) ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE - Meryl Streep, Julie & Julia (I don't trust the Academy here either) ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE - Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds (that's a bingo!) ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE - Vera Farmiga, Up In The Air (I got nothing?) DIRECTOR - Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker (haven't seen it, but please, please not James Cameron) SCREENPLAY (ORIGINAL) - Inglourious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino (when he doesn't get director, at least he might deserve this) SCREENPLAY (ADAPTED) - In The Loop, Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci, Tony Roche (OPTIMISM) ANIMATED FEATURE FILM - Up (because it is the best ever.) MUSIC (ORIGINAL SONG) - “The Weary Kind (Theme From Crazy Heart),” Ryan Bingham for Crazy Heart (I've heard none of these songs?) MUSIC (ORIGINAL SCORE) - Sherlock Holmes, Hans Zimmer (because this score was actually really great!) ART DIRECTION - Avatar, Art Direction: Rick Carter and Robert Stromberg, Set Decoration: Kim Sinclair (ugh) CINEMATOGRAPHY - Inglourious Basterds, Robert Richardson (I don't really know what cinematography is?) COSTUME DESIGN - The Young Victoria, Sandy Powell (pretty dresses, every time) DOCUMENTARY (FEATURE) - The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith (?) DOCUMENTARY (SHORT SUBJECT) - Rabbit à la Berlin, Bartek Konopka and Anna Wydra (?) EDITING - District 9, Julian Clarke (sure?) FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM - The White Ribbon (Germany) (the bookies are right sometimes, and I haven't seen any of these movies) MAKEUP - Star Trek, Barney Burman, Mindy Hall and Joel Harlow (aliens) ANIMATED (SHORT) - A Matter of Loaf and Death, Nick Park LIVE ACTION SHORT - Kavi, Gregg Helvey SOUND EDITING - Star Trek, Mark Stoeckinger and Alan Rankin SOUND MIXING - Star Trek, Anna Behlmer, Andy Nelson and Peter J. Devlin (I don't know what this is...?) VISUAL EFFECTS - Avatar, Joe Letteri, Stephen Rosenbaum, Richard Baneham and Andrew R. Jones (duh, but UGH)
you know, I used to look at the old Videogum sometimes and wonder "This blog is the Greatest, I wish it had a layout that was the Greatest too,". and you know what? This new one is pretty great! So congratsuwelldone Jukt Micronics and 'Gums everywhere that said, I agree re: the preview comments issue, because I am super paranoid about making a bad post or a typo that I literally stress over them for MINUTES. do you know how long that is in internet time?
