Why the fuck would any music artist vote for a president that's silently launching a war against protesters, freedom of speech, signed the NDAA, and moving the country towards an Orwellian oppressive military industrial complex?
The word "retarded" is really politically incorrect and offensive towards special needs people and those who care for special needs people. Mr. Cornell should be issuing an apology.
Told you guys she was a big gimmick- but you stayed drinking that Kool-Aid. Even the author of this post is hypno-brainwashed by the faux-alternative/faux-indie corporate hipster queen- LANA.
Ah hell naw, now the racist trolls trying to come onto Stereogum too?! I don't think so. Go take your meds and sit the fuck down somewhere and shut the hell up.
The genius of an artist is not in him replicating the original song to the best of his/her's ability, but re-interpreting the song in a brand new way.
And while this cover isn't as mind-blowing as cuts from his VOODOO album, it's a nice little glimpse at the direction he's taking his music after a ten year break.
Huge Lennon fan here and i think anyone getting upset over this really need to get over themselves. This is exactly the kind of trivial things that Americans become obsessed with, that distract them from much more important things that they should be paying attention to. And while focusing on the insignificant, they're missing the bigger picture altogether.
Why are people so obsessed with complaining?
People should be concerned about Obama passing the National Defense Authorization Act which will turn any peaceful activists or outspoken American into a terrorist. Or the Stop Online Piracy Act- WHICH AFFECTS ALL OF YOU- which will greatly limit freedom of speech and expression on the internet.
We are moving towards an Orwellian society under the Obama administration, and all people can complain about- is Cee-Lo changing one line in "Imagine"
This is why the masses stay loosing.
Stereogum sure loves to stroke its ego with this masturbatory useless bullshit. This is really reaching, reaching HARD. STOP WITH ALL THE GODDAMN LISTS! They're not cool or hip in any kind of way. One end of the year Best of Music list is enough. I don't get the list-orgy thing. Why so obsessed with lists?
And most importantly of all- (Just to show how out of the loop Eurocentric hipsters really are with quality progressive music- although they pretend to be in the know of the cutting edge...) you forget to include the only relevant anticipated album coming out next year: D'ANGELO- JAMES RIVER (an album that people have been on their toes anticipating for 11 years- and the guy is the second coming of Prince- his music is not to be overlooked.
I don't know if you weren't busy kissing the ass of talentless hackjobs like Rihanna and Lana maybe you wouldn't forget to include artists like D'Angelo and Raphael Saadiq on your lists, who were ahead of the game in creating authentic progressive quality music long before you nerds even brought your first Mac Book.
You're not as hip as you think you are. Trust me.
I don't understand how you all can be a part of a counter-culture, yet be just as robotic and sheep-like as the square members of conventional society that you try so desperately not to be like. Get real. People are allowed to have opinions and to think that this list sucks. The naivety and arrogance of youth is pathetic sometimes.
If I had to name to most pompous douchebag comment of the year, it would have to be this weird thing above me. Since when are people not allowed to have their own opinions and tastes? isn't that what being an "individual" is all about? Get real.
Not really that bad of a list. Pull your indie heads out of your hipster assess. And the Tom Morello diss was lame. More talent in his pinkie than the poster have in a single pubic hair.
Stereogum has been drinking the kool-aid too huh? Indie is the new mainstream, and a bunch of lame poptarts are trying to cash in on it and you guys are eating right out of their palms. Rihanna has never been "quality" music.. maybe catchy every now and then, but not quality. How sad.... SMH.
I disagree with Bon Iver being in the "do-well" section. His singing range is limited, the judges wouldn't be very impressed, no matter how good his songs seem to be. Here's my little 2 cents:
Would: Bilal
Wouldn't: Tunde Adebimpe
Would: Feist
Wouldn't Joanna Newsom
Would: Robin Pecknold
Wouldn't: Elliott Smith
Would: Edward Droste
Wouldn't: Baths
Would: Tune-Yards (Merrill Garbus)
Wouldn't: M.I.A.
Would: James Blake
Wouldn't: Antony Hegarty
Would: Jim James
Wouldn't: Kevin Barnes
