I wouldn't say this movie was great or anything, but it WAS pretty fucking adorable. Or maybe it's just that I find Zooey and JGL so adorable? I don't know. I liked it, though. Quite a bit, actually.
However, I do see Gabe's point about a lot of it, which leads me to believe that, yeah, JGL and Zooey were kinda the only reasons I liked it so much. Way to be shallow, self. :/
I'm pretty ashamed to admit it, but I kind of love Katy Perry. She's no musical genius or anything, but her songs are catchy and I like catchy things! Plus, she's adorable and seems genuinely friendly in all her interviews. (And, of course PRETTY FACE and GINORMOUS BOOBS).
How lame is it that that was basically the first thing that came to mind when seeing that picture, before even reading the story? "But THAT'S NOT RIGHT, blah blah blah IN THE BOOK blah blah blah!" To be fair, though, I am very nearly still a child.
I was super excited for this movie to come out, having read all the comics and everything; And it was so good! I am completely and nerdily enamored with it. It really was pretty faithful to the source material, so even the people I went with (who had never even heard of the comics) totally followed it and enjoyed it. Although they did leave out a little about Ramona's and Scott's respective pasts that kinda woulda made it easier to understand. Also, I don't think there was a single miscast character in the entire movie. Everyone did a pretty excellent job. Maybe I am blinded by my love for the comics, but I just thought the entire thing was a blast! Maybe it's because I am the key demographic for movies like this.
