Surefire proof that TtC can benefit from better production and beats.
They're definitely up there with Robert Pollard on the 'men who look like old lesbians' list: http://menwholooklikeoldlesbians.blogspot.ca/2007_11_01_archive.html

So you know what your aunt's butthole looks like?
In case anybody's interested, a fan made a pastel-tinged alternative to the cover and, for me, it's far easier to swallow than the real thing: http://i.imgur.com/3CfCa.jpg The funny part is that he/she made it in anticipation of see the actual album art. Sad.
I've always wondered what the Rocky Horror Picture Show would look like on acid...
The murderer must be...some kind of monster!
Joan Jet has to be the hottest 50-something year old alive. Anyways, that was a decent cover. The subtext is cute but it was performed like a trad-rock jam.
I feel a little bad for Mr. Jordy Kasko. His first two comments/points for that article were admittedly questionable and poorly developed but he later elaborated on his opinion and actually got 5+ points for his last comment. It makes you wish that the week's "Worst Comments" were only fractionally about the numbers and more about how a reader's post fits in context with its respective article and how that reader defends or develops upon his/her thoughts through further comments. Then again, it's not as if this weekly column should be taken too-too seriously. :P
Well that's a depressing factoid. I'm not too into Fleetwood Mac's earlier material (at least not yet) but from what I've learned, Welch carried the band for a number of years and not only prevented them from being a short-lived oddity of the British blues-rock scene but also helped them develop a pop/rock aesthetic that would become mostly affiliated with the band's Nicks/Buckingham period. Just listen to "Sentimental Lady" from the album Bare Trees and tell me that it couldn't feasibly appear on in their late-70s output. The lawsuit fiasco was an unfortunate roadblock for Fleetwood Mac but it honestly sucks that Welch has never truly gotten his due credit.
Hey Alan, I think you mixed up the 'n' and the 'u' of your last name.
"Scum" comprises some of the greatest artists who've ever lived. Try sitting in a room with people like Beethoven, Orson Welles, Van Gogh or even Prince without being turned off by their personalities. If those guys are dicks, does that make it wrong to enjoy their genius output? (Not that I'm trying to compare Coyne to those gentlemen but man, your question "why support scum" undermines the importance of the male ego in entertainment)
I can respect him for continuing to make great music and for being a devoted showman. You don't have to necessarily want to be friends with a person to respect him/her in some way or another.
And the video's still up on Perez Hilton's website. I doubt that he'll take it down anytime soon. XD Was it proper for Coyne to release naked footage of somebody without full consent? No. But was it a stellar song and music video? Heck yes.
The video has been taken down 'cause (apparently) they uploaded it without Badu's permission. To her surprise, there was far more nudity than she anticipated and not seeing a rough draft of the thing left her quite un-pleased. http://pitchfork.com/news/46765-erykah-badu-is-super-pissed-at-the-flaming-lips-right-now-about-that-nsfw-video/ Call me a perv but I had no interest in watching this video until I heard the news about it's removal. At that point, I immediately looked for the first upload I could find of it on the web and downloaded it onto my PC. 8)
"Coffee and TV", anyone? Another awful NME list...
It's September 3rd for Europeans and September 4th for North Americans. But in today's culture of leaks, let's just say that it comes out on the 3rd. :)
Don't be too surprised to hear Deakin singing. The following song is most definitely that live jam that has Avey scream "LELELELELELELELELET GO!" (due to the use of the word "supernatural" in the lyrics), making it probable that the opening track is that Deakin-sung rocker which AC always played before "Today's Supernatural" during their last tour. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MB7L5IbXtc
"covers of the Harry Warren & Al Dubin’s 1934 American classic 'I Only Have Eyes For You.'" Having only ever known the Flamingos' version, that is very surprising. BTW, is that image from Akira?
To be perfectly honest, Stereogum has usually been perhaps the only place where I've seen the band get consistently trashed. The feedback for these two songs is more upbeat than usual (which is odd because when this site posted a number of debut songs that the band performed on their tour last year - including "Honeycomb" - Stereogum-users were generally condescending). I have not personally listened to this single to comment but that's because it's probable that one of or both of the songs will appear on the upcoming LP. Having been spoiled rotten with Tomboy singles before the album's belated release, I'm waiting to hear "Honeycomb" or "Gotham sounds in context with the rest of the album. :)
Huh, I'm a bit surprised by the backlash here. The track is poorly mixed, yeah, and that stomp that gyrates throughout the song is far too loud and repetitive but the song's still a fun summer jam - and I'm not even that big on Passion Pit.
Let's stay on topic, Mr. Fulmer.
Brownie points to me for predicting Death Grips.
Boredoms, with "Osorezan no Stooges Kyo" (1988) ---> "Super Ae' (1998) Though I don't know if you would consider them to be "classic" albums...

"wasn't in no" is a double-negative, so he's saying that he was in jail! Ah-ha!
And now Stereogum has added AC to the list and downgraded the legitimacy of my previous comment. Thanks a lot, editors.
Rancid and No Doubt but not the Knife or Animal Collective? You guys really rushed this list!
Kinda weird having that face gawk at you throughout the entire performance.
And against my personal liking, I predict that Araabmuzik and Mac Miller will make appearances.
The few silly guesses, just to procrastinate from my studies... - Radiohead - Cloud Nothings (hype; their tour ends on April 7th) - Modest Mouse - The Knife (rumoured new album) - Islands - Dan Deacon (showman; new material) - Death Grips (Californian; awesome) - Aphex Twin (appearing more frequently; unreleased material) - GY!BE (fits in tour-schedule) - D'Angelo (?uestlove hinted at a tour) - The Beach Boys (earliest date announced is April 27th) - Grizzly Bear (been recording) - Of Montreal - The Avalanches (I WANT TO BELIEVE) - Dirty Projectors - Jeff Mangum - Sigur Ros - Why? - Beach House
Bored me to tears on a first listen but this is a real grower.
Would have respected the Avalanches' comment a little more had they not messaged both @boniver and @blobtower with the same freaking complaint. Maybe there is such a thing as bad publicity...
Love this city to death. The Jeff Mangum concert that I saw there was unforgettable.
The other day, Fugazi announced that they would be posting an online archive of live material that is unprecedented for a band of their stature. Pitchfork (and even my local newspaper) rightfully covered the story but Stereogum ignores it. And what does this site favour over that legendary underground act? Middle-brow, pedestrian success-stories like Black Keys or Tegan and Sera who never seem to have too little coverage. Focusing on these safe performers will probably get Stereogum sufficient hits but innovative, less accessible artists like Black Dice or Death Grips get the shaft. It's no wonder that Stereogum is no longer given the "indie music" tag. I should really stop coming to this blog and expecting something that it once was...
Would have preferred American Football, thb. Still cool.
Pet Sounds, thought I anticipate that Smile is going to be mind-blowing as well.
