This one is great. My favorite's the Last Leaf. There are some slow tunes on the album, and they are very good...I love how he basically uses saxophones and horns as percussion on Chicago and Hell Broke Luce (for which the intro sounds like 15 step, to me)
I can't reply to your Hell Broke Luce comment, but yeah. That beat is Tom Waits's take version of 15 Step in my opinion. Awesome. I think my favorite is the last leaf, though. What a tearjerker
As always, lists like these accomplish absolutely nothing, and elicit the same damn whining from fans.
The only lists I've found useful are the ones like Stereogum's top new acts, where I'm actually going to listen to new music as a result of the list.
Word. Agreed. What's weird, too, is that he took money illegally from shareholders, and this was largely overlooked...so he was in it literally for himself (not even for the good of the company). See: Steve Jobs stock option backdating scandal...
I did an unpaid internship and unpaid internships are unfair. And it is true that you learn nothing. I have removed my unpaid internship from my resume. If you don't pay someone, what is your motivation to give them valuable work?
For the record, I have had four internships in the entertainment industry, and three of them WERE paid (Thank you very much, Walt Disney). My logic is, if your venture is profitable enough, you should be able to value your human capital (at least at minimum wage). If you're setting out to give people a learning experience, you should be obliged to do that.
What in the fuck, Annie? Look up the damn lyrics before you cover a Tom Waits song. Jesus. I am normally a St. Vincent fan, but that was just insulting.
I thought the last Interpol album was, I don't know, awesome? This album is meh. Interpol had all sorts of new directions being taken on their self-titled...
YES! FINALLY! GONE FOREVER. I've used his show with my roommate in the same way that Videogum used the 90's A Cappella video with its readers; as an endurance test. I am so glad that it can never be used in that fashion again.
I tell you what, I could care less about the whole offensive v. not offensive conversation going on here.
1.) I do care about the double standards, where we don't see such an equal-weighted dialogue going on when races or religions are discussed in the manner that OFWGKTA discusses women and gays
2.) I do care about the fact that people actually care about this bullshit forgettable music when a lot of really talented up-and-coming artists will never reach our ears (particularly, as someone who uses this blog to discover new music)
3.) I do care about the "let kids be kids" defense. He is 20, and he actively thrust himself into the publicsphere. He's not a "kid" anymore, whether or not he wants to be and act like one (see also: Rebecca Black)
