Child bodybuilding: #newnationalpastime?
Does that sentence make any sense? I just read it again. It looks stupid. Whatever.
I like the shoutout that Jack gave to the guy that played Jonathan, but left for Whitney.
We like sportz and we don't care who knows
Death Cab For Hootie and the Blowfish
I feel kinda dumb for this, but reading and then confirming that she has three albums was really bizarre. I know you basically say that in the post, but just to reiterate. That is weird.
I think bobo dylan was kidding? Right? Do we know that and hate the joke that much? Either way, sorry for the downvotes, bobo dylan.
You know, because her lips are big.
TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH
The Cruel Ravages of Time put out my favorite metal album this year.
Oh also J. Cole on Beyonce's "Party". It's really not all that good, but it got in my head somehow and now I love hearing it.
I thought his self-titled from this year was super underrated. Happy to see a headline with his name. This is fantastic.
"Beyonce, pink the color, Pink the person, hot dogs, basically anything that is awesome, snow cones..." -- Bill Clinton
I love all sorts of year-end lists and other nonsense, but this has become the year-end thing I look forward to most. So good to see Brad again.
I wasn't sure at the time if it was applicable, but now seeing Ryan Gosling on here, I wish I had voted for Kristen Wiig.
Danny Brown on Das Racist's "Power" and I'd move Andre 3000 up into the top 3. Love this list though.
I could tell that it wasn't all that funny and went way too long, but I still could not help but love the Beethoven sketch. I laughed the whole time. Don't know why. Also, the monologue made me very happy. And Jimmy almost getting choked up in the beginning was touching. Awesome episode.
Dunno if I should be as surprised as I am to see Destroyer at #2, but it is awesome. I didn't even expect to see it in the top ten really, even though it is totally deserving. I assumed Bon Iver, Girls, and M83 would go 1-2-3. And though I respect those albums, I'm really not crazy about any of them.
The placement is kind of deceptive. The write-up basically said, "This song is really good, and everything else he's done is annoying." I don't totally disagree, but after all the support they gave Odd Future earlier in the year, it seemed odd (future).
I only saw TV On the Radio's video for "You" after the voting closed, but that is probably my favorite video of the year now. Really funny.
Just saw the Pitchfork list. Way to go, gang! We got the first two right!
It is pretty condescending to assume that everyone except for you decides their favorite songs based on availability instead of thorough listening and some thought. Maybe people just like the song. Gorilla vs. Bear has "Video Games" a place higher than this list, and I don't think that's because they saw a few live clips of her on Stereogum.
That guy is an excellent interviewer.
I'm not mad it's at 31, this isn't a complaint. But I feel like Helplessness Blues is kind of getting lost in the shuffle this year. It is way way better than their debut. And I don't see much clamor for it to be higher in comments or anything.
People are sick of the idea of the Decemberists, fair enough. They've gone out of style. Their songs haven't stopped being really good though.
We don't like it when people want Florence on a top 50, but we REALLY don't like it when people want her off of one.
Scrunchie ponytails his hair for no reason. It is not that long at all. He just wants to match his late buddy in the Most Unnecessarily Ridiculous Hair competition that this season seems to have become. Although most of the other chefs are losing to them, because their hair is pretty normal. Whatever. Glad to see Chuy go.
Adele is probably gonna sweep the big three, right? I'd be fine with that.
Kanye not nominated for record or album of the year? Every year I tell myself I will stop complaining about the Grammys, there is no point to it, but they keep making it impossible. Especially because it seems like they are trying to become a little more sophisticated or something with their picks, with Arcade Fire winning and now Bon Iver. I'm happy that these guys are getting recognition, but overlooking MBDTF almost completely diminishes the Grammys' credibility more than nominating Bon Iver boosts it.
The Hazards of Love gets a bum wrap. It could have done with a few less interludes and reprises, but whatever. It's full of great songs.
It is shitty for me to tell Paste what kind of mag to be, but I thought Bill Callahan would rank really high for them. He seems to be right in their wheelhouse. I do like the Decemberists in the top ten though. The backlash against them has been kind of annoying. They're still a really great band.
They should've gotten Will Arnett to be the guy, so at the end he could say, "You warlock. You came to entrance me."
Music doesn't have rules, yes. But does this feel a little similar to Sarah Jaffe's cover of "Shut It Down" from earlier this year? That cover is way way better. This is pretty cool though.
Not the most obscure picks, which kind of seems to be what they're going for, but my list would definitely have Lykke Li and Heems.
The Blue Jean Committee sketch felt kind of like a re-tread of the Bottle of Sparkling Apple Juice sketch with Bryan Cranston which I really loved. But yeah, the joke was unclear and the whole thing fell flat.
