Ha! I remember after Prince died, SiriusXM created a temporary Prince channel. As I turned to it, I wondered "will this channel air the explicit versions"? The first song I heard played was "Sexy MF". My question was answered with the first line of lyrics.
Hey, I enjoyed reading some of those, jrctennis23. You can find me and my fairly predictable writing on rateyourmusic under username linkst3r.
That wouldn't leave us enough time to discuss Los del Rio.
Ugh, yes. That's a different version of "pick somebody your own size". But I can't complain too loud--both daughter 1 and daughter 2 are around 5' tall and they both have significant others that are 6'+. Nature has a way of averaging things out.
I'd never heard this! It's not bad, though that main synth line is kinda in yer face.
*checks lyrics....nothing NSFW* I listened. I'd not heard it before, but it was pretty good.
He's no giant...like 5'7" (170cm) or so? He has one of the quickest wits of anyone I've ever met. He says it was his defense mechanism he developed so he wouldn't get beat up as a kid. I was so small that it saved me from being picked on. The "pick on somebody your own size" thing is real. Plus, I have a pretty non-confrontational personality.
We can talk The Nightfly till the cows come home
This brings up a question. When did spelling out words with a "to the" in between each letter become a thing? Does anybody know?
This is my winner for the year. I have, without trying, heard "Jingle Bell Rock" so many times I can't believe it. I've only heard Mariah once, when I was shopping.
Ha! I made myself one of those fried banana/PB sandwiches one time. It wasn't bad!
I have met others with similar reactions, exactly like you said. Must be something about James. I have never dived deep in his albums, but songs like this are just SO in my wheelhouse. I don't even feel like I love it, but I just can't deny its a 10.
I am Prince's height. This is not woe-is-me or anything, but being a short guy when you are in the dating scene is not cool. I am guessing that it isn't unlike being a 'full-figured' or 'big-boned' girl. When it comes to first impressions, like it or not, reality is that it is a significant disadvantage, especially if you don't have Prince-like charisma. Luckily, there's someone for everyone (actually plenty of someones) and people that matter look past our first-impression shortcomings and find the 'real' me or you. I actually am totally happy to be the height that I am, and not freakishly tall like the rest of you, but in my high school and college days, there were times I wished that I could at least find a girl shorter than me. (Mrs. Crawford beats me by about an inch. Everything is good.) No offense to Mr. Breihan, who has me beat by nearly 2 feet.
I am totally jealous that you saw him at those live shows. Capitol also released a 20 track CD that was basically a "best of the 4-CD box set" and I have had that for almost 30 years. Les Paul music is happy music. "How High the Moon" is fantastic and was #1 for 10 weeks, IIRC. I will just pile on and add another favorite of mine, "The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise". Like Mariah Carey, Garth Brooks was one of the few artists that I actually knew had gotten huge during my 2 year mission. I was sitting in a Pizza Place at lunchtime, and "Shameless" came over the radio. A guy in the pizza place we were talking to explained how huge Garth had gotten. I knew him back in 1990, because I listened to country radio, so I'd heard the hits from his debut album, but could have never predicted how big he would get.
We went through the whole Elton John imperial phase of the mid 70s, and I don't think that I gleaned how much all of you considered "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" as what sounds like is your collective favorite. Mentally I always filed it under his 'epic ballads' folder, alongside "Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and I've always looked upon them as good, but skippable songs. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" almost fits in that folder, too, but I always liked it best of that bunch. I'm a "Philadelphia Freedom" and "Blue Eyes" guy, myself. (And Neil Sedaka's "Bad Blood").
Sadly, I suppose yes. I don't have the book in front of me, but I think Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" went to #1 four different years starting in 1942, all before the rock era.
Tom in the formerly adjacent cube says that "Cream" is alright-ish and gives it a 7. He and I have talked frequently of "7". He says, "It's too bad his completely terrifying (and insanely unique for a pop song) "7" didn't go to #1. That's played a lot more on SiriusXM and makes me want to run for the seminary every time."
