I should clarify. The nightmare comments was mostly in response to the fact that the majority of it was nightmare vision for the eyes. I definitely didn't hate it, and I was certainly entertained, but I definitely had the same gripe with the unreliable narrator aspect, which I kinda suspected coming in and wasn't that surprised when it did happen. I also think it tried to capture a lot of what David Lynch's Lost Highway captured only Lynch did it better because he's positively nuts.
That said, it was still a well-acted, well-shot film that for the most part flowed together well (though still a bit tedious at points). I feel like a nerd though because throughout pretty much the entire thing I thought about how it would make for a good video game. D:

Ahem, sorry. Just got back from the tedious nightmare (both figurative and literal) that was Shutter Island, and now I see that I made Monster's Ball for the first time despite having posted very sporadically of late! I'd like to dedicate this 3rd place to all the people who really make this site and community great, and I hope to remain a more frequent poster rather than lurker.

Is that what it was?! I was so confused by that. I thought for a minute she was singing really badly along with Miley Cyrus or whatever was blasting from the event speakers and we were going to have an impromptu Miley Cyrus dance party.
Personally, I really enjoy the winter games, much more so than the summer ones. I'm a fan of winter sports in general, and it's nice to actually feel unabashedly patriotic once in a while and root for murika. Also, so many of the events are just fun to watch because they are NUTS and the people who do them are nuts. Watching downhill skiing and being genuinely nervous for each skier that they actually make it down the course without killing themselves is nuts. Watching short-track speed skating is nuts.
I don't really get to pay attention to these sports outside of these two weeks every four years, so it's nice and the perfect amount of time to care about these kinds of things imo.
Fuck that. When the Rapture happens I'm stealing all of these people's dogs and starting my own 4REAL Hotel for Dogs.

I still browse SG every day and think that the actual posts and writing are high quality, but I haven't bothered signing onto there in about a year now because there's just no point in commenting at this point. There's no real discussion going on, and it's too often that you feel like you have to constantly defend any band you like because of the roves of "this band suks" comments or a snarkier equivalent. I am a musician (perform and write jazz/rock stuff), and I feel that I know my shit musically, and more importantly, that I LOVE listening and discussing interesting stuff. I've always felt inferior in there though because I'm afraid that somehow my tastes aren't cool or hip enough because I don't like Wavves or some random band I personally couldn't care less about.

I signed in JUST to say I respect your acknowledgment and self-awareness of a blog like this that strives to be so much and bring so much entertainment but can sometimes result in a race to the bottom in terms of tastefulness for the sake of laffs. That's what separates this place from many other pop-culture blogs or the true garbage pits of the internet such as 4chan.
That said, this post is fat, gay, and retarded. <3
