Looks like the guys weren’t so happy with 2007′s Our Love to Admire and, as a result, “the new record falls back towards the first.” Drummer Sam Fogarino also notes: “That big wash of reverb? It’s back … It’s there.” More good news for Interpol fans at Paste.

  6. What was wrong with Our Love To Admire? I thought it was a good album. Not as good as Turn On The Bright Lights or anything but it still held it’s own. Regardless.. still looking forward to new stuff from these guys.

I didn’t think Our Love to Admire was that big of a disappointment. I liked it better than Antics for sure. Rest My Chemistry was the standout track on OLTA.

  8. I don’t know if the music was the problem i had with Our Love to Admire. Although it was a step backward. I was mostly disappointed with the lyrics. So so so disappointed.

Try writing some decent songs this time. So far one decent debut and two weak follow ups. Kind of sounds like The Strokes story. Who would have thought The Yeah Yeah Yeahs would be the NYC band to still be going strong from the early 2000′s.

I thought OLTA was an amazing album. The lyrics and the way each songs were structured was a work of art. Just because it didnt sound just like the first two doesnt mean it’s not good.

New Interpol that sounds like old Interpol, the Courtney Love story, the Coen Brothers reference….

There is nothing about this article that I do not love.

Our Love to Admire was arguably better than Antics. Or maybe it’s just that Antics was such a letdown after the debut that OLTA didn’t seem so bad. In any case, there’s nothing wrong with a band experimenting with its sound. By the same token, there’s also nothing wrong with a band getting back to basics. Looking forward to it.

  13. I’m so happy to read this, I love Interpol and I can’t wait to hear it.

Interpol takes way too much crap for 3 great albums. I started with Antics, went to TOTBL, and bought OLTA the day it was released. They’re all outstanding, if different. Every one of them has at least 4 exceptional tracks. Looking forward to the 4th album.
