Thursday Night TV Open Thread

They’re baaaaaaaaack! Most of our old friends and one of our new acquaintances returned to our homes last night, and it was wonderful. We haven’t seen 30 Rock in forever! Unfortunately, and I hate to open on a bummer, the episode wasn’t especially great. Both Jenna and Kenneth had some funny lines (“Show me Jack’s penis.”), but it didn’t really HIT to me overall. I don’t think I’ll ever really stop liking the 30 Rock style of nonstop weirdo jumpy jokes, but it does seem like it’s getting a little worn. Still nice to see it back, though! I hope it gets better! What made the episode seem even less good to me was when Parks and Recreation began and was immediately so much better. One thing I really like about the show right now is how Aubrey Plaza’s character isn’t so one-note. It’s maybe a minor thing, but the fact that she actually smiles and talks in normal sentences sometimes makes everything A LOT more bearable. I’m also happy that Adam Scott remains a main character. He is great! The claymation video? Give me a break. It’s funny because we’ve ALL been there. My one complaint is how the episode opened with Leslie giving Anne one of her, “Beautiful, stupid Anne” type lines, because to go for it right away like that seemed kind of like they were transparently going for a thing they know people like, which is what you’re supposed to do when you’re trying to please people, I understand, and it is possibly the tiniest thing I could choose to complain about, but the rest of the episode was great so what else am I even supposed to say? Also, it looked like it hurt a lot when Pistol Pete fell on the ice! The Office was good. A friend came over halfway through and asked what was going on and I said, “Well Andy needs $800 to meet his quota for the quarter or something so they’re trying to win it in a trivia contest at a gay bar in Philadelphia,” which made me a little upset to have to say, but whatever. Now that Jim and Pam are married and boring they have to do SOMETHING. And I continue to enjoy Robert California. Up All Night was surprisingly not bad. It did seem out of place on the Thursday lineup, but only in a totally bearable way. Plus it’s on last so you don’t ever have to watch it if you don’t want to! WHAT DID YOU THINK?
