Ice Choir – “Unprepared” (Stereogum Premiere)

Former Pains Of Being Pure At Heart drummer Kurt Feldman came out of the box strong with his shimmering ’80s pop project Ice Choir. 2012’s Afar earned Feldman a spot on our best new bands list that year. Since then he’s gone on to produce for the Dum Dum Girls, but we haven’t heard from him since a couple holiday singles in 2014.

Today, he drops the lush, glistening “Unprepared,” taken from his upcoming album Designs In Rhythm. Dense, deftly arranged synth layers, muted guitar, and classic ’80s dance drums envelope Feldman’s smooth tenor as sings of a love he wasn’t quite expecting to become so strong within him. The song captures all of the wonder, excitement, and uncertainty of finally seeing someone in their totality as your counterpart. Listen.

Designs In Rhythm is out 9/9 on via Shelflife/Fastcut. Pre-order it here.
