Here’s your Top 10 “male indie rock hotties” of 2005, based on the near 3k results from our poll…

So, for those just joining us, Sufjan recorded Stereogum readers’ favorite album, and (with 464 votes) was the dreamiest indie dude too.

Again, your verbage was confounding. Misspelling Gruff Rhys: OK. But how do we tally “Ben Walla”? Other disqualified submissions were females (Ciara, JD Samson, Bea Arthur) and gorillas (King Kong). Gorillaz were OK, though.

Noteworthy reader commentary:

  • “Anybody but Sufjan.”
  • “Not Pete Doherty.”
  • “Not Kevin Drew.”
  • “Trent Reznor … love those guns.”
  • “The cobrasnake and the last nights party dude.”
  • “Jesse Hughes and his sleek mustache.”
  • “Shaun Ryder’s bloated head in Gorillaz ’Dare’ video.”
  • “I loathe all those pansy, pasty, contrived ’indie’ white boys.” [Variations of this got a lot of votes]
  • “David Cross or his imposter.”
  • “See man man live and you’ll suddenly understand the strange hotness of front man honus honus. sweaty = good.”
  • “David Berman … b/c it’s cool to crush on the boss’s son.”
  • “Monsieur Valentine.”
  • “Jenny Lewis in trousers.”

And now, all the eligible entries. I love that SNL’s Narnia rapper tied Time’s Person Of The Year.

    7. jere  |   Posted on Dec 31st, 2005 0

Ps. I hope you all know, Conor Oberst is the whiny fourteen-year old who sings “The ‘Feel Good’ Revolution” and “Lover I Don’t Have To Love”. Sick

    8. i wanted colin meloy at first place.

    9. david  |   Posted on Dec 31st, 2005 0

I was voting for Keith Murray the rapper.

    10. Jane  |   Posted on Jan 1st, 2006 0

Bono? Snoop Dog? Paul McCartney? Are you kidding me? You guys are retarded – a third of the people listed don’t even come close to being classified as Indie Rockers.

    11. Rich  |   Posted on Jan 1st, 2006 0

      frank black 4 president

    18. Frank Black's mother  |   Posted on Jan 2nd, 2006 0

      I voted for Frank Black!

    19. the “Dude from Army of Me” from a previous post – his name is Vince Scheuerman – doesn’t appear to be on here…is it that hard to google??

i kid. thanks for your work…but his name is Vince Scheuerman.

    20. 4 votes for Carl Barat and 21 for Doherty…shameful. I would have been the 5th vote for Carlos, if I knew when the voting started.

    21. iliana  |   Posted on Jan 2nd, 2006 0

      honus honus 4 life.

Interesting that 2D beat out Damon, though ;)

    25. Kristine  |   Posted on Jan 6th, 2006 0

Alex Kapranos is #1 on my list. That man is even more handsome and sexy in person :-). Damn, that Eleanor is one lucky lady.

    26. Jasmin  |   Posted on Jan 6th, 2006 0

Hope that Carl Barat thing isn’t anywhere on there, he’s got all the charisma of Eleanor Rigby, a wannabe from Basingstoke and he knows we can all see it!! Ha! Say what you like about Pete but when they were together on stage Carl looked like he was on Stars in their Eyes – ‘and tonight Matthew I’m going to be desperately affecting to look as cool as my much more charismatic and talented partner Pete!’

    27. I’d take a “bland” Carl instead of a fucked Doherty (who by the way acts “charismatic” mostly because of all the shit he has in his system…he’s only entertaining because of the drugs!) any day Jasmin. Atleast Carl cares about something other than himself. Anyone agree in the least bit with me?

    28. The Rolling Stones postpone a show in the US to allow singer Sir Mick Jagger time to rest his voice…

    29. no jason anderson, wtf? well, he’s more of an awesome friend dude, but still, he’s totally mr. indie rock but he’d never say so himself since he’s way too modest.

    30. alice  |   Posted on Feb 22nd, 2007 0
