If you haven’t distilled a theme from Kanye’s assorted 808s & Heartbreaks leaks, lemme help you: Ye’s traded rapping for pretty much nonstop Auto-Tuned warbling, and dude is really, really glum. If you’re thinking a song titled “Amazing” is gonna offer respite, you’re thinking with your squidbrains. Kanye’s voice here betrays a subdued and detached disgust, and while you could say the auto-tuner has a way of masking vocal emotion, it can’t dilute the contempt in these lyrics: “I’m a monster, I’m a killer, I know I’m wrong / I’m a problem that’ll never be solved … I’m a monster, I’m a maven, I know this world is changing / Never gave in, never gave up, I’m the only thing I’m afraid of.” OK, make that self contempt. Maybe Kanye should have saved the American Psycho-referencing vid for this track. Young Jeezy’s on hand to rhyme “sodium” with “podium” and momentarily distract you from being freaked out for Kanye’s mental condition. Enjoy!

808s & Heartbreaks is out 11/24 via Roc-A-Fella/Island Def Jam.

this beat started out dope, but Kanye’s auto-tune singing ruined yet another new 808&HB track. sorry Mr. Ye.

    • What’s with the hate? Plenty of other artists use auto-tune.. at least Ye’s not trying to hide it..

Streetlights and Tell Everybody That You Know also leaked today.. I’d say the rest are… soon to follow…

The hate comes from it being such an unnecessary squandering of vocal/lyrical riches by ‘Ye. He’s a really expressive rapper, a pretty good singer as far as rappers go, and is taking the auto-tune thing too far by doing a WHOLE ALBUM with the gimmicky, ear-shredding implement.

  3. STOP LEAKING MY FUCKIN SONGS YOU SQUIDBRAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’M TYPING SO HARD I’M GONNA FUCKIN BREAK MY 1981 IBM 5150!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES, I’M GOING 80′S YOU SQUIDBRAINS!!!!!!!!!

“Welcome To Heartbreak” also leaked today. I think it may be my favourite song… great drum treatment. The only song I kinda like from all the leaked ones is “Heartless” and this one, but all the other ones are horrible. I wanted a “Graduation Part II” but I guess that’s impossible.

    • Graduation part II? Graduation was already a direct sequel to his first two albums. And even then it paled in comparison to those classics.

This track is…I think “ill” is the world to describe it. Got that loping, hypnotic vibe of Drunk & Hot Girls (which was one of the truly striking tracks from Grad. Not to say Graduation wasn’t a very good album, it just didn’t really stretch any boundaries for Kanye.)

stop being a kanye rights activist and trying to justify his overuse of auto-tune in every single 808&HB related post, its pathetic.

this AND the fact you typed the phrase “graduation was a direct sequel to his first two albums” makes you a certified douche bag.

  5. When are Kanye’s album every sequels? Each has a different feel and sound. Some themes remain the same but highly unlikely he’ll create a Part II. I do however miss the graduation/work theme. I was hoping this album would be “Post Doctoral Fellowship,” but I wasn’t so lucky.

This record blows, I’ve heard the whole thing. That is, unless you’re into emo, because that’s what his music has turned into. Don’t even get me started with the autotune.

  7. Look, I love KanYe. Some of the songs on this album are pretty good.

But um…the only thing amazin’ about this track is that people are listening to it.

  8. at first I was thinking this could be a psych out the autotune thing but hes commited to it.

When i saw him at lolla this summer he talked about pushing the envelop like john lennon, james brown, and somebody else and how people will critisize you for it. I guess I get what he means now.

  9. EJ you are hot

  10. The only way I know how to respond: thanks

Easily the best track so far from 808′s. Please stop hating on kanYe venturing out into uncharted waters. If you would rather listen to the same shit over and over, please listen to Paper Trail. That album wins the overly redundant album of the year award.

the production is underwhelming. those feral screams or whatever they are are cool, but they come into play a little too late. i can appreciate Jeezy’s swagger(God how that word has been bastardized) but he is a sub-par rapper. Ye has great taste in just about everything save for his inexplicable veneration for LIl Wayne and Jeezy. Oh yeh, Graduation was his worst album to date. For a lesser man it would have been a seminal work but for Ye it’s mediocre.
