Norwegian Wood Poster

Jonny Greenwood last scored There Will Be Blood, which he almost won an Oscar for, except his entry was judged ineligible since parts of it were not composed specifically for the film. Japanese film Norwegian Wood, which is based on the Haruki Murakami novel, is his newest project. Here’s a sample called “時の洗礼を受けていないものを読むな” (“Don’t Read What Hasn’t Been Baptized by Time”), and it’s a delicate acoustic guitar piece. Have a listen. Note: Greenwood probably can’t get nominated for his score to Norwegian Wood either — it includes a previously written piece called “Dogwood.”

  1. C’mon Radiohead. I keep hearing about a new album thats supposed to be coming out but then I’m also hearing about all this solo stuff, Phil Selway etc. What is going on?

    • About a month ago Jonny said they were in the studio working on the album, although other stuff I’ve read sounds like they’re getting pretty close to finished. Expect it next year.

  2. I didn’t know they made a movie of Norwegian Wood! I love that book! And in the Murakami canon, it will definitely lend itself to a film adaptation the easiest.

And as I learned from the There Will Be Blood tunes, I will wait to listen to these songs in context of the film, because it usually adds the proper dimension to really “get” them.

  3. Radiohead sucks. Big time. Helps my insomnia though.
