If you’re behind on your RSS, you missed the collective realization that Passion Pit are appearing as more than a one-hit-EP wonder, when Scott highlighted the Boston synthpoppers stuck-on-repeat song/video “The Reeling.” Would it be too much to ask for both of their Manners LP’s lead track to be ecstatic dancefloor homers? Well, yes. But mostly because Passion Pit are shooting more for the heart than the hips with “Moth’s Wings.” Where “The Reeling” paired Michael Angelakos’ familiar helium vocals against unexpectedly fresh and stuttering electro, this new one leads with dulcimer(!) before pianos, four-on-the-floor beats, starry synths, and a chantable hook turn the inspirational letter to a friend into a twinkling, chest-swelling, borderline anthem. Plus it’s chest voice (mostly), so you know, growth.

Manners is out 5/18 in the UK via Columbia and 5/19 in the US via Frenchkiss. That of course is its art above.

dude, it’s so phil collins/ peter gabriel esque, in a good way. it’s, like, so majestic. looking forward to the lp.
As a big fan of both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, may I say this sounds nothing like them. Both of the new songs have been pretty good, still waiting for one that blows me away like “Sleepyhead” did though.
if the songs that keep getting leaked are of this high quality ive got very high hopes for the album!
i strongly disliked The Reeling, but this song is so much better!!!
was supposed to see these guys open for ra ra riot about a month ago, but they backed out. needless to say, i was sad.
however, i immediately bought tickets to their headline tour this spring. this stuff is sick.
from what i’ve heard the general reception towards “the reeling” was quite disappointing, but personally i have to say i liked it better than the ep stuff. it’s much deeper, i like the rather layered sound. the ep was nice, but bored me pretty quickly. the new stuff is more promising.
Do we start hating them when the full-length comes out or wait until the single gets big? I don’t want to be on the wrong side of the inevitable hipster backlash that occurs with every up-and-coming good band.
boba fett iz cool mayn
Yeh The Reeling didn’t really do it for me either, but this is pretty epic towards the end.
Can we all agree that Sleepyhead is the anthem for Summer ’09?
try fall ’08!
Pssst…off-topic for a bit:
Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party lineup has been announced. Go here:http://www.capitolhillblockparty.com/
i havent heard any of their new stuff yet but the chunk of change ep changed my life
Pretty easy to call this as the album I’m going to be blasting out of my car speakers all summer
Not sure how you can say that yet considering the new Third Eye Blind comes out in June.
mandolin= dulcimer
this reminds me of a lot of the vagrant records bands from the late nineties, not a bad thing, just feels nostalgic to me
hints of postal service anyone? This sounds a bit more like chunk change, so not bad.
i like it. album should be great. the justice remix of the reeling is much better than the original though.
Are you thinking of the Calvin Harris remix? I can’t find anything about a Justice remix of that song. Could you provide any info about it?
This is beautiful…. I am more and more impressed by this band.
yep……it leaked…….it’s as amazing as you would think……
i can’t find that justice remix…..anyone know where i can find it?
thanks….
uh yeah, that’s a dulcimer, not a mandolin
It looks like I’m in the rather small minority here, but I don’t really like this song that much. However, I really like both “The Reeling” and “Little Secrets.”
the reeling is cool, i like the chorus a lot. not too crazy about this one, i like the sounds a lot but not the vocals
I think Fall 2008 is better. Maybe it’s because I’m used with it.
For me, Sleepyhead and The Reeling are pretty equal. That doesn’t mean I don’t love the hell out of both of them, but I just think that this is a different and very good sound for them.
They way overuse children’s choirs/voices on this new album. In fact, it’s a little creepy. I like Swimming in the Flood though.
disk isn’t to bad. Not like Chunk though, i dont get the dance feeling i had that whole cd and screaming in my car, “TEARS LIKE DIAMONDS”.
I am really impressed. By the whole Album. It feels really good.
they do sound like Phil Collins
